Ok, so to those who are offended, what do you plan on doing? Are you going to cancel your subscription to the Ensign in protest? Are you going to write a letter to the Editor the of the Ensign (Jay Jensen)? Are you going to glue a copy of the real picture on your scripture case as an act of civil disobedience?

What does the offended do in this instance?

A letter to the editor is actually a really good idea.

I'm probably missing some subtle humor here but isn't he LDS?

I am not offended, but I think it is important to point out that it ain't just the Church of the overly orthodox. So I think it is fine to express your point of view and that some disagreement does not mean that you reject the entire portfolio of offerings of the Church and all of it's arms.

So, I will tell everyone that it comes up around that I think it is silly in an effort to build consensus, however small, that we need to put that type of foolishness behind us.

I didn't realize he was LDS. That just made him uber-cool.

I'm offended and won't do anything. It's not a big deal, but that doesn't mean I can't be offended. Honestly, I haven't read the Ensign (other than the FP message) in years so I really don't care.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I may be making an assumption. But his bio says he went to BYU and lives in Utah with his wife and 8 kids. Also, he grew up in Mesa,AZ until his family moved to UT when he was 14.

You need to stop jumping to conclusions based on such scant evidence.

Another thing I learned about the Harry Anderson painting.....not only did the Church ixnay the wings, they also asked Anderson to fix the Savior's hair. The original version featured an Ernest L Wilkinson approved short haircut. The Church, likely under the influence of Mick Jagger and his rock and roll music, asked Anderson to add some length to the locks.
Just as an aside, yes, there are people out there who do think paintings like this are realistic. I met a guy on my mission who belonged to some funky church that believed Jesus had rays of light coming out of his hands, because that's what the paintings showed. Light, power, and healing coming out of the palms of the hands. I thought the guy must have been kidding, but he was totally serious.

I do think it's dorky to photoshop a Bloch painting; they should have used some other depiction. Maybe they're trying to get their money's worth for buying rights?

Has anyone told Bloch about this? I wonder how he feels about it.

I am sure his temple work has already been done for him by multiple well-meaning members. He's probably a stake president in the spirit world who now understands that angels have no wings, so my guess is he's fine with the whole thing.
