I'm starting to think it's a message that resurrected Jesus got lots of chicks. These modest girls are swooning for a righteous man!

Rangar is one of Penn State's finest.

I believe winged "angels" have more to do with Iris & Hermes, the messengers of the gods in ancient Greece. Isis, in my opinion, is more in line with a divine mother figure and less easily compared to an angel's role.
Weren't Hermes' wings on his feet/heels?
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

yeah. winged sandals. It's not a far stretch to see a winged messenger becoming a Christian "angel." Especially when you look at Iris. It seems to me in myth Iris is usually running errands for Hera, and Hermes for Zeus, but I'd have to check that for sure. Just my initial impression. One other funny thing about Hermes is that he's often shown with a big floppy hat. I guess he was worried about his delicate complexion.

        Here's Hermes

        Here's Iris.

I think that I am at a point now that this stuff just doesn't bother me. The church, like any institution, has an image that they want to portray. If that image is wingless angels, so be it. If it is a tattooless Araujo, so be it. If it is a mute mother in heaven, then so be it. Meh.

There is folklore that Mary was originally from Spain.

Of course, the wild card is knowing what "ethnicity" God is and making a pretty safe assumption he has a sigificant number of dominant genes.

I like to think of my Jesus this way:

Or, I like to imagine him wearing a tuxedo t-shirt, because it says, "I'm formal" but it also says, "I'm ready to party." I like to party, so that's how I like my Jesus to be.

But that's not really the point. I have no problem with promoting a doctrine of wingless angels. But it should be pretty easy to do so without desecrating a work of art in the process. That is disturbing on many levels. God help us if we get to the point where we all just shrug our shoulders at such nonsense.

Unless you think we are on the brink of a greased up 80 degree slope, I'm not sure I understand this statement. And if you think we are on the edge of said precipice, I'm not sure I understand how you would conclude that either.
