lol @ all the hubbub about an unattractive, intelligent woman who found a forged piece of paper. Everyone got really sensitive in the two months I was mostly absent from this place.
Yes there is something cowardly about criticizing someone on the internet without showing your face, but by that definition, we are all complete and total cowards every single time we step into this forum. Or maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better for mocking people on the internet. Regardless, if Viking and DC ever decide that they don't mind you knowing their identities, I welcome your criticisms of my photos. At least in that way I don't feel I'm quite so unfair with the interweb mockery.
As to the question at hand, I don't really care and I don't know if it really matters, but that's how I tend to answer most unanswerable/unknowable religious questions.

Looks like it was a forgery.

Score one for SeattleUte. He called it.I received an email from Craig A. Evans saying that the Harvard Theological Review (HTR) has decided against publishing Karen King's paper on the Gospel of Jesus' Wife. He wrote, "After the analyses of Francis Watson, Mark Goodacre, Gesine Robinson, and others, I think forgery is virtually a certainty."
Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI find her look of triumph holding a FOURTH century scrap of parchment that is smaller than a business card preserved in a square of glass in which she thinks she reads “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife ...’ ” to be, well, a little obnoxious. As if this sheds any light at all on the historical Jesus. Leave aside the cryptic nature of the document, by the fourth century the Christians had long been making up all kinds of fictions about Jesus. The whole thing makes me want to scream BFD. 3D may not appreciate why he's annoyed at her, but if I know him, and I think I do, he finds this whole thing grating in the same way. If you make this kind of celebrity grab people are going to critique you.Last edited by Jeff Lebowski; 09-25-2012, 09:15 PM.

3D once bought me a steak dinner and a glass of wine. This is a classic gesture of decency and charity.Originally posted by cowboy View PostThe unfortunate irony in this little dustup is that, having spent considerable time with wuap and DDD in person, I consider them to be two of the kindest, most gracious people I know. Wuap occasionally appears to overreact because what you see is what you get with him, and he'll tell you what he thinks. DDD is easily one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, and kind of like a Chuckie Miller - a natural smartass who reels off wisecracks as a reflex and plays cat a mouse out of boredom, but always with a smile on his face.
If we're all honest with ourselves, Dr. King is no Kate Middleton (although we can't be certain until we see Dr. King topless) and those of us who still have a locker room sense of humor have to admit that DDD's crack elicited at least an internal smile. We should be ashamed of ourselves for smiling, but we smiled nonetheless.
Now enough drama, can we please return to the proper way to roll our sleeves, the reason BYU football sucks but not as much as so-and-so's bishop/stake president, and whatever it is you people talk about in the Breaking bad thread? By the way, I spoke with landpoke the other day, and he refuses to post here again until HFN takes back whatever insult he texted him the other day. I didn't catch it all, something about a prosthetic phallus or some such thing.

I never said anything about his personal physique, quite the opposite. And, given that he is fluent in Spanish, he knows exactly what I meant. I'm out of this thread.Originally posted by Topper View PostBut you are attacking him for something he didn't say. And then you stoop to personal insults. You have tendency to launch insults if you don't like an argument or something somebody does.
DDD can be clever, smug, or smirky, but he usually desists from being directly rude to the person he is debating.
You accuse him of demeaning somebody he has never met and with whom he is not conversing. Then you attack him in a language he doesn't speak.
Now you are attacking his personal physique, which according to some witnesses is quite attractive. What is your point? You desire to have some grounds for moral outrage against a perceived opponent of yours?

I agree. I can make various arguments why the evidence may or may not exist. The orthodox were relatively effective in eliminating evidence of materials they did not want to survive.Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostMy view on this isn't dogmatic; if I think the evidence warrants a change in my view, I'll make it.
Other than intellectual curiosity, I don't really care. It's an interesting question, which academics won't solve conclusively in all probability.
The recent fragment could have come from a "heretical" group. It doesn't sound gnostic in that Christ was not considered tangible so marriage wouldn't make sense for the gnostics.
