  • A Profound Question (for active Mormons only)

If your child could not be an active Mormon, which would you prefer?

Would you rather your kid be an active member of the Community of Christ (RLDS)--with name removed from LDS records--or an inactive Mormon (LDS)?

I realize there would be other possibilities in real life, but I'm curious to know what people would consider preferable.

This poll is for active Mormons only.

    Active Community of Christ (RLDS)

If my child leaves the Church I will no longer have a child.

          Yeah, me too.

I voted for inactive LDS because, after rigorous thinking, I am of the opinion that assuring that this option wins will create the desired outcome for discussion of this profound poll.

Strongly prefer that they be inactive LDS. It would break my heart to have to make fun of my own child for being RLDS.

Correct answer. They are lost to you forever. You should be indifferent between inactivity, RLDS or the JW's...it's all the same outcome.

I think having a community is important and I would rather my kid be a part of a loving supportive church community than be inactive and part of no community at all.

Is your assumption that non religious people lack community entirely? Or that your child would, for whatever reason, be totally unable to become part of a community outside of the LDS Church?

Which loving, supportive, church community are you an active member of?

I think you're under estimating the eternal nature of the sealing power of families. When the Lord instituted the "No Child Left Behind" initiative, he meant even the stupid ones.

not really, especially with the options given.

It's profound because it examines the personal importance of faith versus tribalism or loyalty to a particular institution.
