Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Sure, but you need a new schtick. I have met you before. You are as white as the rest of us.

Well I don't volunteer for commercials. And at least my walls aren't white. You would think with the browning of the Church, their PR department would do a better job of cross culture representation. I certainly wouldn't use the average Utahn for these type of messages. What about a Mexican lady, running around silly doing her best?

Kinda funny. I hate convocations. I'd do away with them and commencements. We had a girl do a similar speech at our high school.

I agree the sentiments sought to be invoked by the Mormon message are overly sentimental and fake.

I was referring to your delusion that you're a badass.

Really? Who'd thunk it. We telegraph everything so much a blind man could see it.

Yeah. Should have used an African American single mother. That would have gone off like Roman candles!

Topper, cynicism over a series of religious video messages like this is probably the cheapest and laziest form of cynicism there is. If you want to score some badass points, you are wasting your time in this thread. Move along now.

I kept wondering when this mother was going to pull out the Prozac. It seems to send a message of guilt to mormon mothers with less kids and with husbands that don't stay in the basement watching football all day. Was this video produced by the LDS church or the pharmaceutical industry?

“Many Mormon women do not have clear boundaries for themselves. They feel a sense of confusion about who they are, because many competing voices lay claim to them and they try to accommodate them all. For example, when I became a member of the Relief Society general presidency, I was appalled at how many women were tormented by guilt about their responsibilities as mothers. They seemed unable to see a boundary between themselves and their children.

It is a strength for women to be able to cross their own boundaries easily when they are meeting the needs of their children and serving others, but it is a great disadvantage when they feel every call for service as an imperative which they are obligated to meet. Remember, a boundary has “yes” on one side and “no” on the other. A woman who never feels that she can say “no” is lacking an important element of personal identity and, hence, personal safety.”
