Read it again? Like most Mormons, I haven't read it once. No thank you.Originally posted by NorthwestUteFan View PostGo read Miracle of Forgiveness again, and try to understand why Christians don't believe Mos are 'Christian'. That book does not seem to fully believe in the forgiving, 'go your way and sin no more', Jesus.

It's not nearly as bad as NWUF and Rambam would have you believe.Originally posted by Jacob View PostRead it again? Like most Mormons, I haven't read it once. No thank you.

I know. I'm still not interested though. Other books on the list. I've read parts. My favorite is about Cain being still alive as modern-day Sasquatch. It proves no such thing. For all we know, Cain/Sasquatch was masquerading as a primate to get a ride on Noah's Ark.Originally posted by Jacob View PostI know. I'm still not interested though. I only suggest we read that book to understand some of the underlying fundamentals related to this topic that still exist in the church. Apocryphal or not, doctrinal or not, the ideas still persist.

I would tend to disagree that the proper interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount is that lust = adultery in terms of seriousness, consequences, etc. I have always taken the meaning to be that "just because you're not actually doing the deed doesn't mean that you're in the clear." And I think that's a fair point--I think there is a differentiation to be made between natural attraction and lust, although I agree that for a teenage boy that line can be difficult to place. (I do think that the line shifts, and rightfully so, after marriage.)Originally posted by The Rambam View PostIn Mormondom we teach very clearly that lusting in your heart is the actual equivalent of adultery (3 Ne. 12:28). We also teach that lusting alone is a denial of the faith leading to your being "cast out" (DC 42:23). The Miracle of Forgiveness--given to every boy who ever felt his girlfriend up and confessed to his bishop during the 80s and 90s--is very clear and dogmatic about this point.

Here's some very offensive quotes that SWK ran with when he wrote Miracle of Forgiveness:Originally posted by Jacob View PostWhat an offensive and absurd post.
. . . Your virtue is worth more than your life. Please young folk, preserve your virtue even if you lose your lives. ."
-David O. McKay
"...There is no true Latter-day Saint who would not rather bury a son or daughter than to have him or her lose his or her chastity -- realizing that chastity is of more value than anything else in all the world."
-Heber J. Grant
Being the modern prophet who I grew up with, I was taught this in mutual:
"Also far-reaching is the effect of loss of chastity. Once given or taken or stolen it can never be regained. Even in forced contact such as rape or incest, the injured one is greatly outraged. ... It is better to die in defending one's virtue than to live having lost it without a struggle."
-Spencer W. Kimball
So to the extent anybody in my generation has sexual dysfunction, I'm placing a lot of blame on the church for teaching these offensive doctrines."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
"You are an intemperate, unscientific poster who makes light of very serious matters.”

There's far more sexual dysfunction in the church due to the pervasive influences of pornography and uber-permissive cultural influences than there is due to a handful of hyperbolic teachings about the importance of being chaste before marriage.

That last quote is especially strange.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostHere's some very offensive quotes that SWK ran with when he wrote Miracle of Forgiveness:

My quote? If so, fine. For my part, I envy men in the church who didn't take to heart these quotes while growing up. But I don't think I'm alone when I say I experienced a lot of needless emotional pain growing up, because I thought i was guilty of serious sins. I might have had the same guilt growing up in a non-Mormon church, but that's irrelevant. The offensive "sin next to murder" came/still comes from the top, and faithful youth leaders feel a duty to teach it. So yeah, I place blame on the church for that.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThat last quote is especially strange."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd.
