I swear. It's a flaw and I own up to it. I don't justify it by claiming the church's counsel not to swear is invalid or is just another archaic teaching the leadership of the church is using to keep me under their thumbs.

I try to be like Jesus and not harm other people by my actions. That's the most important kind of obedience, I think. Whether or not I'm obedient to some rule is less important than how I'm treating those around me."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

I see. So what you are admitting is that your unwillingness to obey the counsel to use clean language belies a predilection to disobey many other commandments. Ergo, you probably don't have the Spirit and are unqualified to opine on these matters. It isn't really the swearing, per se, it's the underlying motivations and attitudes. All things being equal, of course.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI swear. It's a flaw and I own up to it. As I left my house this morning I am pulling out of the driveway and about 3 houses down I see the 2nd counselors wife putting her garbage can out. The problem was she was in a short coat and just her garment bottoms. She saw me pulling out and ran in to her garage. As I drove by her house I look over and she is standing in the garage without the coat in nothing but her garments. I am guessing she thought I couldn't see her in the garage.
There was nothing attractive about it, but if she were showing some shoulder it might have turned me on.*Banned*

I don't believe I made any claims about how much or how little I have the Spirit, but it is undoubtedly limited by the many incorrect choices I make. However, it does not make me any more or less unqualified than anyone else here to opine on these matters.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI see. If you had the Sprit, you would already know the answer to that question.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostI have a tough time keeping track of the activities that will cost me the companionship of the spirit. What if I watch Dexter while poorly groomed?

You have made some very specific claims. Per your own admission, your unwillingness to obey simple counsel likely means you are disobeying greater counsel. It was you that said "disobedience limits the influence of the Spirit." Therefore, you have admitted to having a diminished influence of Spirit, which makes you an unfit candidate to be advocating these issues.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI don't believe I made any claims about how much or how little I have the Spirit, but it is undoubtedly limited by the many incorrect choices I make. Having trouble with some of the "bigger" rules, indycoug? Then take solace by being able to obey gently lobbed softball rules like grooming....or cursing.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

If you are like most people, the main problems in your life have nothing to do with your actions and attitudes that make the spirit uncomfortable in your company. Rather, is your actions and attitudes that make other people uncomfortable in your company.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI don't believe I made any claims about how much or how little I have the Spirit, but it is undoubtedly limited by the many incorrect choices I make. Sorry, but my flaws also include refusing to leave bullshit like this alone. You make a pejorative statement like 'my religion is not your religion' and then you have the audacity to get upset by a simple question?Originally posted by nikuman View PostCut the bullshit Indy. I agree to an extent but I think both aspects can be very interrelated.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostIf you are like most people, the main problems in your life have nothing to do with your actions and attitudes that make the spirit uncomfortable in your company. Yes. Incredibly pejorative. I can see the hatred and loathing drip right off of the vile insinuation that my religion is not your religion. I think it might have been my gratuitous use of the word "religion". Or maybe "your". I can't possibly understand how you didn't rush into your car to head down to Texas to kick my ass. Clearly any reasonable person would have seen this.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostSorry, but my flaws also include refusing to leave bullshit like this alone. I don't think I have ever known you to own up to your shortcomings. What are they? Or perhaps you can just link us to some of your online confessionals.
