I think you would still have to wear some shorts, or after a few minutes you will be the sole contestant in a wet-undies contest. That might be ok above the belt, but loosely draped soggy schnitzel? No thanks.

I attended a ward today and they had whole wheat bread for the sacrament. Most bishoprics/ym leaders insist on white bread, which is kind of funny if you think about it. I am pretty sure Jesus didn't use bread made from bleached flour."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

The tray passed down our pew today was actually a combination of white and wheat. Maybe they wanted us to have a selection.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI attended a ward today and they had whole wheat bread for the sacrament. I was trying to remember if I had ever seen that before.

Hmm. Years ago I was in Hastings looking at used cds and a guy came in wearing sweat pants and a garment top. He was generally unkempt and creeped me out. I thought it inappropriate for him to come waltzing into town in his garment top, but sounds like your bishop would disagree.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostBishop -- There is no rule that states that the garment shouldn't be seen by others. So long as you are still modest in your appearance around others, it doesn't matter if the garment is visible. As Mormons, we wear garments, and that might look strange to non-Mormons, but that is just the way it is.

The presiding priesthood holder has to be the first person to eat the sacrament. Complete tradition, not a doctrinal requirement, althou we treat it as such.
I've held up the tray and not passed it to the first row until I saw the Bishop chomp the bread. We really should determine a specific point at which the bread is considered "consumed" by the bishop. Are you clear to pass to others once the bread is in the Bishops mouth? Does he have to chew the bread three times? Does he have to swallow the bread before you can pass to others?Fitter. Happier. I think this is to make sure the bread isn't poisoned. We should give about 2 minutes and if the bishop hasn't keeled over by then it can be passed to the rest of the congregation.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe presiding priesthood holder has to be the first person to eat the sacrament. There was a high coucilmen during law school who I frequently saw working out at the university gym in his blue jeans and garment top (nylon mesh, smiley-face collar).Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI think it would look even more strange to the members who are there. I can't imagine showing up to the church to shoot hoops with the ward and seeing some guy in a G top.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Aristides Jr. got talked to in front of the whole congregation. . .well, more like the whole congregation witnessed the SP whispering into A Jrs. ear. He was a new deacon, the SP was at our sacrament meeting, little Junior got the job of taking the bread/water to the stand. He started with the bishop first. I'm sure he didn't know. The SP, as Junior was giving him the bread, put his hand on his shoulder and said something to him. My poor little newbie deacon turned so red. WTH SP? Just let it slide and correct after if it is that important! To make matters worse, our bishop (old one, now released) was speaking that day and made mention of it in his talk.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe presiding priesthood holder has to be the first person to eat the sacrament. There was a YW in my ward who baked bread to use for the sacrament as part of her YW personnel progress program. She had a brother in the Teacher's Quorum so it worked out for her supplying the bread and her brother bringing it every week for several months. It started out as white and then went to wheat. After a few weeks, different varieties/colors appeared. One was even a dark brown/black (rye of some sort?). All were delicious and a big hit. Had to police the kids to make sure they didn't take handfulls and the wife asked for recipes. When she completed her project, it was tough going back to the generic bleached white bread.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI attended a ward today and they had whole wheat bread for the sacrament. Thats too bad. Not handled well at qll. In our ward the bishopric goes over to the deacons every sacrmanet and tells them who is presiding that day, in order to try to avoid that sort of embarassment.Originally posted by Soccermom View PostAristides Jr. got talked to in front of the whole congregation. . .well, more like the whole congregation witnessed the SP whispering into A Jrs. ear.
