Redeemer of Israel has been one of my favorites for a while.

I sing it as it appears in the hymnal and I harbor no ill will for any mid-western state in the US.

1. I truly love "Secret Prayer"... And for some reason it means more to me when I sing it in Spanish.

2. Where can I turn for Peace..

There are a few songs that every time the organist begins, the spanish lyrics come immediately to mind, and I will generally annoy my wife by singing along in spanish, to the extent I recall the lyrics. Secret Prayer is one such song. Another is Nearer my God to Thee.

Where Can I Turn for Peace is a very poignant song for me, mostly related to a mission experience where a quartet gave a wonderful performance of the song at a heartbreaking quasi-funeral meeting. I really like that song.

I really like this one as well.

I don't think we've sung this in the 4 years we've been in our ward. Makes me wish hymn selection was more like American Idol and I could text in my vote.

It would be nice if we could add newer, better songs to the hymnal, but, absent that, I'd prefer we cut out half of them. And let ward choristers know that it is OK to sing the good songs in sacrament more than once a year, and it is not a good goal to give equal play to all the bad songs in the book.

This is probably an entire thread unto itself, but I agree wholeheartedly. I'd love to see the Church utilize the vast musical talent at its disposal to add some new hymns. I'd especially love to see hymns from overseas. There are also a bunch of hymns, as previously discussed, that need to be shelved including a bunch whose melodies are too difficult for the average congregation.

I’m not a fan of the Mac Wilberg arrangement as it feels rushed and that doesn’t convey the pain, anguish, and ultimate relief that is inherent in the song:

We went to a MoTab concert at BYU-I a few years ago and my two songs favorite songs were "Down to the River to Pray" and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing". neither of which are in the hymn book. Maybe they should open it up to a few more songs.
