"Now Let Us Rejoice" and seriously: "Praise To The Man." I love the former because of the poetry and its relevance to my pioneer heritage. I love the latter hymn because it has a little fight in it and I am not ashamed of brother Joseph.

Also, I am fond of "A Poor Way Fairing Man Of Grief" and "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic.
Praise to the Man, of course,
Lead Kindly Light,
Alll Creatures is right up there,
Poor Wayfairing; and
Rise Up Oh Men of God!
It would be nice if we could add newer, better songs to the hymnal, but, absent that, I'd prefer we cut out half of them. And let ward choristers know that it is OK to sing the good songs in sacrament more than once a year, and it is not a good goal to give equal play to all the bad songs in the book.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
I can't pick just one, I have too many favorites. Off the top of my head:
Sacrament hymn: "In Humility, Our Savior," especially the second verse.
Hymn of praise: 'How Firm A Foundation."
General, somewhat funky hymn: Adam-ondi-Ahman. Very soothing. I like the uniquely Mormon hymns, especially those written by W.W. Phelps. For those who like to sing in choirs, there's nothing quite like a well-arranged version of "The Spirit of God."
“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
― W.H. Auden
"God made the angels to show His splendour - as He made animals for innocence and plants for their simplicity. But men and women He made to serve Him wittily, in the tangle of their minds."
-- Robert Bolt, A Man for All Seasons
"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
--Antoine de Saint-Exupery
"Now Let Us Rejoice" and seriously: "Praise To The Man." I love the latter hymn because it has a little fight in it and I am not ashamed of brother Joseph.
Do you still sing the original words to the 2nd verse?
Redeemer of Israel has been one of my favorites for a while.

So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.
1. I truly love "Secret Prayer"... And for some reason it means more to me when I sing it in Spanish.
2. Where can I turn for Peace..
Surprisingly I googled Secret Prayer and found this..

EDIT: One that forever will touch me is the Children Hymn "When I am Baptized". While my Father was in Rehab before he passed the YW would come to his nursing home and go to each room and sing the song each person wanted. He would always request this song. And he would break down in tears each time they sang to him and then thank them.. It was beyond touching to me and to look back and read the words now. I see what he was preparing for and what that song meant to him..
