For what it's worth, I was robbed three times while on my mission--once at gunpoint. On another occasion, I had my phone line cut while several men were busting through my windows. (We were trapped inside our apartment.) My companion was pistol whipped. Another companion was stabbed in the chest and almost died. Another missionary in my mission was stabbed in the heart and died. Two missionaries in the neighboring mission were taken hostage and had their arms broken before they were finally released. Two others were tied up and injected full of crap with dirty needles and had to be sent home for HIV prophylaxis.

My parents were worried about me. Some might say it's a good idea to "cut the cord" or grow some balls. I'm glad I had the balls to break stupid rules and keep in touch with the people who raised me well and taught me to think for myself.

What a shame that the elder who died couldn't call home once a month (or once a week) to say "hi" to his mom before he was murdered.

I'm happy that each of you were finally able to make a friend here.

Not from me there isn't. I don't appreciate wuap doing it either. In fact, I object to this sort of thing with regularity.

Part of the answer has to be that they aren't trained to do some of the other things. They are young, know comparatively little, and hit the streets.

I hope the Church has more mediated missionary work in the hopper (a virtual ward on the Internet that people can visit, more online oriented activities, telecomm networked advertising--you know, something that will make an invitation to take a tour of a visitors center pop up on someone's cell phone or laptop if they're within a certain distance of a temple, webcam discussions, just the tip of the iceberg).
Perhaps the church has some data that the so-called experts on this board don't have. If it were more effective, you think the church would waste their time?

You're not done yet. You need to throw in a little racism and homophobia to complete this impressive performance.

    1. Telling wuap to leave the Church.

    2. Referring to him in vulgarized, feminine terms as though that makes him a lesser person.

I'm far from perfect in my interactions with my fellow CUFers, but can you chill out a little?

I don't see any reason for all the hositlity in this thread. It certainly isn't furthering discussion of the issues at hand.

My two MPs had different rules. I was able to call home, but I feel for those who couldn't. It's a tradition. Dissension is not sedition, but I wouldn't expect a dolt like you to understand nuance.

As I've said before, my wife made a pair of earrings out of my balls and wears them to Church to show people who's boss, but I don't think they look good. Small earrings are much better.

If we're going ad hominem here, I have a sneaking suspicion that says you make nervous jokes about homosexuals.
Ah, the true wuap comes out. Temper, temper. LOL

Do you feel better now? LOL

You should have convinced your kid to stay home and provide service instead.

See that thing in your rearview mirror? It was the line separating appropriate from inappropriate. Give some thought to hanging a u-turn and heading back to the other side of it.

I'm glad I, as an anonymous stranger about whom you know nothing, have such a bearing on your online persona. It means so much.

Your hypothetical empathy does not buttress your point. I didn't want to call home, nor did I request, want, or need special condolences from anyone in the mission. That shit's for females and the otherwise emotionally unstable- hence my point that people that can't cut the apron strings are *ahem* Pussies. But hey bear your fake cross proudly-- I can only carry this on so long.
