And I thought my stake was the shaker and mover?! To find out that we are copying the stake to the north is...disheartening. But props to you for showing up to watch a video feed. Since the chapel to my ward's assigned building is still under renovation, I decided against sitting in the gym/cultural hall another week and had a great day at home with the spouse and family. A needed reprieve from endless Sabbath meetings.

Pres. J is the new sheriff in town. Pres. F is chief deputy. A former Biship is the new 2nd counselor and probably working off a 10-20 year sentance. Maybe he'll be lucky and get paroled early.

No, we have been doing the video feed thing a couple of times now. We have a betting pool in our small rebel group in our stake on how long the video feed will last until it freezes or drops out completely now. I almost won this last time. Every since a backhoe took out the telephone cable up the street the building DSL connection has been dropping a lot of packets.

Before Pres. J was in the SP he was a MP. Poor guy. I'll be sure to add my condolences to this year's christmas card.

And before that he was a Bishop. Got nothing but good things to say about the man and his family. He made a strong impression on my oldest son on his EE interview - but he ended up an A&M Aggie anyway.

Gambling talk today. We are being told to not use face cards, even when it's not even for playing poker.

I get a kick thinking of these types of people flipping out seeing someone playing a game of solitaire on their computer.

We had this rule in my home growing up. My friends all thought it was weird. Now I understand why.

Isn't that a vestige of the old MoDoc days?

I remember having a late night discussion with my roommates at the MTC and one Elder informed us that the suits on cards (diamonds, clubs, aces, spades) were the symbols on Satan's garments. I think I was up most of the night freaked out in terror. In retrospect, I wouldn't be surprised if every single thing we discussed in those late night MTC chats turned out to be false doctrine.

I would be willing to bet half of those who speak in church on the evil of playing cards, play slot machines on occasion.

It looks like talks on the evils of gambling encourage gambling!

Didn't Mitt in a debate make a $10,000 bet? I am sure as SP he felt compelled to give talks on the evils of gambling.

I do know of someone whose name we would all recognize who played heavily in the commodities market. One firm he dealt with wouldn't allow him to play in the market anymore. He also I am sure has given talks on the evil of gambling.

We got out an hour early due to the littlest one puking all over MJ

I have never heard anybody at church say we shouldn't play cards. But then I also acknowledge I have met less crazy people in the church than the average CUFer.

                            What about hearts?

Honestly, this card thing can't really be among the important things we need to worry much about.

Then again, I've never been much of a card gambler... I might as well just pull a Franklin, and light it on fire. I suck at cards.

Hopefully they would sit reverently with a prayer in their hearts that they would be touched by the Spirit.

Seriously? You must be younger than I thought. I haven't heard it mentioned in many years, but it used to come up quite frequently in lessons. Modoc was the source most often quoted.
