Bill pay. It's very easy. I've linked the form somewhere around here."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I text my wife from the stand every week. If my Branch President disapproves, he hasn't yet made it known.Originally posted by Tick's wife View PostWhat will be real funny is if the Bishop text you during sacrament to tell you to stop playing on your blackberry and to stop texting the brother two rows behind you.

There are days that I wish I had a CUF brother to text with during sacrament meeting, meaning one that was in my ward. Would be fun to discuss live some of the comments made. Usually by the end of the meetings and my meetings I've either forgotten what was said or I'm just too tired to post it in hte "learned in church" thread.Originally posted by Tick's wife View PostWhat will be real funny is if the Bishop text you during sacrament to tell you to stop playing on your blackberry and to stop texting the brother two rows behind you."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Wow.
We got a new bishop a few months ago.
He's bound and determined to spend as many evenings as he possibly can between November 15 and December 30 and is going to drag one of his counselors and me along with him.
We've already done 4 very sparsely attended TS sessions. There are still two more nights currently scheduled and tonight he mentioned that we will probably do 2 more Sundays and most likely another week night.
Tonight, I suggested we not announce any more nights or sign up sheets. Rather, we announce that there are only two more sessions of TS and members need to sign up on those nights or they will be called to be scheduled. Then, if another session is necessary, we could open up, say, the 30th of Dec. to stragglers and scheduled appointments.
I was rebuffed.
So, it looks like we are set to do 8 or 9 total nights of tithing settlement.
Fan-tastic.
The other ward is accomplishing this in 3 and a half evenings. Our ward did the same last year.

I used to clean the clerks office, old files and all. It's amazing how much crap can be accumulated over the years when nobody cares enough to throw stuff out.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostWow.

For the life of me, I can't understand the point of tithing settlement. We already have temple recommends as an effective method of ensuring broad compliance. Is it primarily an end-of-the-tax-year reminder?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I think it's the bishop's way of chatting with as many families as possible -- kinda like home teaching on steroids from the comfort of his own office.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostFor the life of me, I can't understand the point of tithing settlement. Why do it during the Holidays and all in a month? Why not spread it out over the course of the year.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI think it's the bishop's way of chatting with as many families as possible -- kinda like home teaching on steroids from the comfort of his own office.
There is absolutely NO reason that a finance clerk needs to be at the Church for tithing settlement.
Really, there is no reason anyone other than Bishop needs to be there.
Much less for 8 or 9 evenings.
For hell's sake...

I may have mentioned it in this thread, but our Bishop knocks it all out in one day. This Saturday from 6am to 6pm. It's a long day, but then he's done.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostWow.

If I can talk my wife into it, I am going to do it via e-mail this year.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI may have mentioned it in this thread, but our Bishop knocks it all out in one day. If you pay directly to SLC, you can probably get an electronic statement from them and then you can email it to the bishop.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIf I can talk my wife into it, I am going to do it via e-mail this year.

As I mentioned in another thread I like to pay tithing in-kind for tax reasons (capital gains taxes are a b*tch). I do this dealing with only the church office in SLC and no one at the local level.
