You are definitely above Clack on the orthodoxy continuum.

      Maybe in this dimension.

I definitely questioned that placement, wondering if I had missed something.

This was the first (and only) sports message board I was a part of and I saw variations of "coug" and just decided to go with something like that. I never really liked it and decided to go with USUC as a (now admittedly way too obscure) reference to a Primus t shirt that I had as a youngster that said "you suck" which was riffing on their Primus Sucks saying. I felt too dumb to ask for another change.

The funny thing is my handle in all previous guitar and band message boards was Kappa. Not sure why I didn't just stick with that here.

I'm probably more here, which isn't much farther than I was originally. I'm pretty orthodox in my actions, but I'm also a Mormon Deist in belief, which isn't very orthodox but it allow me to believe all the necessary stuff to still be EQP while not giving a rat's ass if I only find three drivers instead of nine for the meals on wheels assignment the stake gave us last week. I also think the endowment ceremony is weird and wish they'd get rid of the totally unnecessary signs and tokens...but I also think the sealing ceremony is incredible and I end up usually crying at some point while performing sealings.
I'm probably about where you are. I have a calling and go to church almost every week. But I have so many questions on doctrine and don't understand as much as a should (didn't go on a mission where I feel a lot of people "get it"). But I don't have the energy or inspiration to really delve into it. The Church is really good for my kids and I don't want to let my apprehensions get in the way of their experience of it. So I stay in this weird limbo.

              • Another interesting list might be "where do you reside on the heresy scale?", if heresy is defined as a belief that is at odds with official and accepted teaching of orthodoxy. Getting away from the reflexive negative reaction to the word, by definition many (mostly?) heretics hang out here. An important note, NWC, MP and I cannot technically be heretics as we've rejected the whole thing. I think there are several names up near Jesus on the orthodoxy list who may meet the technical definition of heretic.

Edit: If this was what the original list was intended to be then never mind. But I interpreted the original list to be asking how orthodox one is in their behavior. I think actual beliefs could produce an entirely re-ordered list.

                • Belief vs behavior--that's partly why I struggled where to place myself. Behavior: I'm probably an above average member but not next to Jesus. The struggle is real. Belief: when it comes to belief in Jesus, I'm as orthodox and all in as it comes. Was there a literal Garden of Eden? Tower of Babel where tongues were confused? And quite a few other Old Testament stories?

that would be the more interesting ranking IMO. I’d like to understand why questions to the TR interview and other belief qualifications are nuanced.

if that listing gains traction, I’m still in a similar place on the spectrum

You have to believe everything in the OT is literal to be orthodox? Wow. Who knew?

Yeah, I dunno. Maybe I am ultraorthodox then.

Sort of in the same boat. I have three callings now. I go to church most sundays.

But unlike you, I’m not sure God exists. At least, not in the way we articulate God. On my most faithful day, I could live with the label of Deist (of some sort). But Agnostic is probably the best way to describe my belief in god.

I go to Primary most Sundays (we're usually a bit late to catch much of Sacrament Meeting). I also attend the (too frequent) Family History Consultant meetings and assist with some of the activities/events. So we somewhat fulfill our two callings.

                            • I'm not particularly spiritual, but go to Sac Mgt most Sundays, Mrs Happy and my calling is permanent substitute primary teachers - we end up teaching 1 or 2 times a month. Rarely go to SS, but go to Priesthood when not teaching. Hold a temple recommend, but don't go that often.

I have a firm belief, bordering on knowledge that God exists, hears and answers prayers and knows me by name. I've had a couple of experiences that confirm that to me. That said, I think the answer to prayer is often "figure it out, you are here to learn."
As far as the church goes - I believe, but not to the same extent as in God.

Next to Nursery - this Primary gig has been my favorite calling.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

                              • While we're talking about updating orthodoxy status let me relate the tale of my 82 year old mom drinking coffee for the first time in her life. We were in the mall recently and we split up to look at a couple of things. When we met back at Barnes and Noble I found her in Starbucks with a cup. I know it's pretty easy to get something WOW-friendly there so I assumed she got some frappe thing. But when I sat down she told me that those pumpkin spice latte pictures at her grocery store Starbucks seemed so enticing. So she decided to scratch that itch. Verdict? She thought is was OK, drank about a third of it, and then gave me the rest. She said she's happy she did it to see how it tasted, and now she doesn't have to get it again. Riiiiiight Mom. Just wait until your sweet tooth finds a mocha.

But there was no guilt or shame in her sin. This is the person who told me when 2 brothers stopped church activity that she was going hardcore on temple visits and eschewing rated R movies, in an effort to get a miracle for us to return to church. That was on top of what I would consider a pretty orthodox member for most of my life.

That would be another interesting angle to the orthodoxy question. As you get older, how has your level changed? Would any of our seasoned members here wave away such an ingrained part of our culture/doctrine by drinking coffee?
