  • In Atlanta for the weekend, from the high councilman:

"Seeking out the dead [meaning geneaology] is the greatest task we can do in this life."

    In Sunday School:

"Police officers who have the Gift of the Holy Ghost have the power of discernment via the HG to tell when someone is lying to them."

    Joint Priesthood and RS meeting:
Oh, and, "If you do not have a ticket as a Single Adult to hear Elder Ballard speak, they will not let you in the door of the building. It is for Single Adults only, so don't even try it."
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

      • The Church Welfare program was established to teach the needy that it's a sin to accept welfare without working for what was given. Not necessarily untrue, but a very odd way of saying it.

        • It's pretty intimidating to teach a lesson in EQ when a GA is in attendance. Especially when it's a "pick your own topic" day.

I agree. How about, "helping people in a way that strengthens them?" or, if the teacher wants to go straight to the CHOI:

The purposes of Church welfare are to help members become self-reliant, to care for the poor and needy, and to give service.

                • The sacrament meeting program in my ward was awesome. There was a photocopy of a painting of the Founding Fathers and one of them was crying. Underneath the painting was a reference to the D&C about the U.S. Constitution.

I don't think the dude crying on the bench is one of the Founding Fathers, but it's hard to make out his face.

                    • I learned during sacrament meeting that if you take one of your sons to a get a drink then to a room to "talk about his behavior" every week, and he tells your wife that he wants to go hang out in the room because the talks are boring, she will give you the stink eye.

I love it. Looks like Abe is fixing to punch someone.

Funny this is, no president has been accused of manipulating the constitution more than Lincoln.
