Stake conference at the Oakland Temple Hill Inter-Stake Center (more well known-locally as the place Bonnie Raitt and others delivered eulogies at the funeral for John Lee Hooker; no I am not kidding) today. With about 40 minutes to go somebody crashed a car into a transformer nearby leaving us with no power. This was our new stake president's first stake conference and he tried to rally the troops by having us sing some hymns to piano accompaniment (this is a BIG room, like a 1500-2000 seat auditorium) but it didn't take, as the siren call of an early departure was heard loudly by all. After one song he capitulated, shouted a brief testimony, and we closed.

Luckeeee. Hooker's funeral was held at the ISC? Pretty awesome. That building is filled with lots of memories for me going back to my childhood. It also served as the baptismal site for Eldridge Cleaver (and me, for that matter), and was the practice facility for the Golden State Warriors for a season or two.Originally posted by creekster View PostComment

Yes. Got mixed up. Meant to say I'm skipping stake conference because our ward doesn't meet in the stake center so it's video feed for us in our building. We also had Pri Program. One little girl yelled in to the mic, "I'm so nervous!!!" Everyone loved. The kids sang "Gethsemane" and everyone cried. Also finished with a song I had not heard before called "Miracles" another solid choice. Overall a good day.

I can't recall all the budget manipulation techniques, so can someone confirm that these primary programs were held on the best Sunday to optimize budget allocation by maximizing attendance? That sounds like a whole MoSto podcast with grains of salt analysis.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

We had our primary program today, too, and it drew crowds. Rather than trust their memorization skills, the older kids would read directly from the script, so of course we had a couple of cases where they weren't thinking ahead and read verbatim things like "Jesus Christ has power over death. (Tell the story of raising Lazarus from the dead in your own words John 11:1-45.)"
Being a primary teacher myself, I was up on the stand between a couple of hyper little boys that my wife and I taught last year. By the end of the program one was leaning over against me, about ready to take a nap, and the other was trying to start a thumb war.
Our kids also sang The Miracle. It's a touching song.
Wow, I just watched the youtube link that cj posted. That young lady singing the solo of the 2nd verse at 1:40 is from my ward. She just got back from a mission a couple of months ago.
