Once again I throw out some questions today in HP group and after the meeting I'm given two references to McConkie talks and one to a Packer talk. My HP group loves these two.

We had an awesome lesson today in GD. We've made it through the lesson book so today was an open lesson written by the teacher. It was very good and makes me wish the teacher would take more liberty more of the time."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I learned that if you do your mission in Australia, even a month after you come back, you will speak in a full blown Australian accent. It's a shame because I think the RM who spoke with the HC rep did an excellent job, but speaking with that heavy Australian accent, I just couldn't take him seriously.I'm like LeBron James.

I learned that after you die, the first thing that happens to you on the other side of the veil is that they ask you for your temple recommend. If you have one, they immediately put you to work."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I learned that a flock of larks is called an "exaltation" which is pretty damned cool to know."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

I don't know how awesome my lesson was but I did the same. In fact, we ditched the lesson altogether and just chatted about who we like the church. It was the best lesson we've had in some time.Originally posted by Moliere View PostWe had an awesome lesson today in GD. Must be something in the fountain water. I teach GD, and I dispensed with the lesson too. We just talked about what we've grown to appreciate about the New Testament this year. And then we had a closing prayer and fellowshipped for 30 minutes.Originally posted by nikuman View PostI don't know how awesome my lesson was but I did the same. It's to bad he didn't speak normal during his talk and then throw in his Australian accent when he bore his testimony. That would have been awesome.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI learned that if you do your mission in Australia, even a month after you come back, you will speak in a full blown Australian accent. Seriously, though, it was one of the best lessons we've had. Made me appreciate the fellowship we have at church.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

Apparently you did not learn.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI learned that a flock of larks is called an "exaltation" which is pretty damned cool to know.
I went through a phase in college wherein I tried to memorize as many collective nouns as possible. Turned out to be relatively useless, like most of the information in my head. The lark thing stems from James Lipton's book of the same name (yes, that James Lipton).
The impetus behind my quest to memorize can be traced to one of my then-fave discs, Counting Crows "August and Everything After." I didn't realize that the song "A Murder of One," was a reference to the collective noun for crows, that being a "murder," which is, in my opinion, one of the best collective nouns, as well as a business of flies (or ferrets). Learning that tidbit made the song title all the cooler, as I had previously assumed the title was simply a reference to murder.
After that, I decided it was time to learn more about collective nouns. Which lead me to several lists and published works, including James Lipton's tome.
While not relevant, it is also somewhat interesting to note that during my quest to learn collective nounds, I was sidetracked into memorizing license plate slogans for the 50 States.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Sting uses the same image in one of his songs - "All This Time." I agree that it is one of the best collective nouns.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe impetus behind my quest to memorize can be traced to one of my then-fave discs, Counting Crows "August and Everything After."
