The father spoke of his father going hunting alone when he was a teen some forty years ago and learning that his father was killed by a shot from far away. They never found out who shot him. He talked of watching the news and seeing authorities carrying a body bag that carried his father and how gut wrenching it was. His topic was forgiveness and how he had to speak at his fathers funeral and prayed beforehand to have forgiveness so he could move on with his life. You could have heard a pin drop as he spoke in front of the 300 or so members. You think you know people but this floored me. This guy has made a life his father would be proud of.

    Seeking a clarification.

Was it the father who spoke at your meeting that went hunting, or his father? I am confused a bit as to who died. The speaker's grandfather, or the speaker's father.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Oh and he mentioned other priesthood blessing related miracles as well, but I'll keep those to myself because I don't want to rub it in to the apostates on the forum. I'm compassionate like that.

P.S. No word on whether the blind guy's sight had been restored permanently or just long enough to read a few verses.
Any mention of small, egg shaped stones/hats?
I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

Sorry I wasn't clear. The speaker's father. The speaker is now about 50. This happened to him at age 14.

I'm guessing he hadn't been blind his entire life, and at some point, had learned to read?

I do appreciate you not damning me any further with 'meat'.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I know. Kinda surprised the media didn't run with it, tbh. You would think he would have been shouting it from the rooftops.

I have a feeling the RM cast his pearls amongst the swine ( disbelievers and cynics).

                        • My 24 year run of not having to talk in Sacrament meeting is about to end. Oct 11 is the tentative date for my streak to end. Right now I'm leaning toward talking about how life is like a giant group ride (bikes) but I'm open to other suggestions.

How about in your heart, after much prayer, you know when God rested on Sunday he played a round of golf.

That's right after GC. You should have your pick of talks to speak about. No need to limit yourself to just one either.

Go with what you know. I've composed (but not reduced to writing) a talk about cycling analogies including the several benefits of drafting. I also like the concept that (esp. in mountain biking) your focus needs to be on the line that you want follow, not on the hazards on either side, as one naturally drifts in the direction one's looking, or one overreacts in the opposite direction. Keep hazards in the periphery but focus on where you want to go (or, stop focusing on all the Don'ts in the church and focus on the Do's). I have many more, including the value of caffeinated energy drinks and gels.
