Depends on your definition of member. I think the bulk of those who accept being called a mormon distiguish between commandment and counsel.

If by member one means a "true" member, then there is no distinction. Even after you logically show them having such a position is equivalent to having one's head up one's butt.

    • Growing in the gospel is exactly like Ebenezer Scrooge, not similar, exact. Well one exception, you will not be visited by 3 ghosts just 1.

      • I've never had a cold and the stomach flu at the same time until today. No church for me. This is a special kind of hell.

        • Free holiday Regional conference broadcast today. We just finished breakfast and are headed up the canyon to check out the leaves.

I learned at regional conference that I shouldn't be a part of a paramilitary organization.

            • HCM speaker :snoring: talking on families and how the world wants to redefine the definition of the family. I was feeling sick so I was able to catch a quick nap, which i usually can't pull off in sacrament.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

              • I learned not to follow the manual's suggestion for the lesson introduction.

It started harmlessly enough. I asked class members to first imagine a salesman knocking on their door selling but 1 product: misery. I then asked the class how this salesman would best go about convincing me to buy this product. What I thought was a lame if not benign question quickly turned into an imminent train wreck of a political discussion with Glen Beck at the switch.

The first answer I got was from a curmudgeonly and extremely serious little man who didn't wait to be called on:

                "HOPE & CHANGE!!"

                The rest was a blur.

                • story from my daughter's student ward.
A guy was recently baptized and passed the sacrament for the first time.
He passed the tray holding it on the bottom with an open palm.
As he came to her row, he said, "Here you go, please take one." Then as he was waiting for it come back, he said, "How are you today?"
She got a huge kick out of it.
We need more new people mixing the pot a little.
                  I intend to live forever.
                  So far, so good.

                  • Nothing bizarre today, if you don't count me silently reading Juanita Brooks in my pew when I got bored.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

                    • I completely forgot that today was a church holiday in Utah.

And then I remembered that I completely forgot to find a sub for Primerica.

I guess magic really does happen.

I missed regional conference because of a military organization. So what was this all about?

                          From Elder Oaks talk:
"Another example that I understand to be current among
some members in this part of this church is the influence of right-wing
groups who mistakenly apply prophecies about the last days to promote

supporting paramilitary organizations. I have sometimes taught this
principle by reminding that the church has counseled the storage of food

                            • A youth speaker said his family was blessed because his sister went from two earrings to just one. He didn't say how they were blessed but they were blessed.
