Seminary False Doctrine

For some reason they were discussing the '78 revelation this morning in my daughter's Seminary class and she asked why there had been a ban against those of African decent. The instructor said it was because of lineage. That didn't satisfy her and she was frustrated that the other students accepted that answer so easily. My daughter was the only one asking questions.

So we talked about it tonight.

I love correcting the false doctrine my kids learn at church. After our discussion, I gave her the book "Neither Black nor White", published by Signature. You can find it here:

High school girls have enough issues and pressures on them without having to decide whether or not they trust their church teachers to give them the straight story. It's a tough issue and I think your daughter will be glad you didn't lie to her or spew some party line.

So, I spent an hour reading last night before I got called away.....what there ever any reckoning between the ordained black members and Pres. Young's pronouncements (which while made as governor sounded a helluva a lot like the Prophet speaking)?

I'm just curious.....can you sum this up for someone who's curious without the time at the moment to read the entire book?

My ninth grade seminary teacher taught our class that when people become more righteous, their skin lightens. He claimed to personally know a Native American man that was unrighteous as a young man, but repented and became white. I am still amazed that I believed him.

My dad encountered Dyer and his toady son during his mission in Germany back in the early 60s while he was a traveling assistant. After witnessing Dyer's intimidation tactics against other missionaries (including physical intimidation by his son), my dad questioned his testimony for years after his mission.

Needless to say, Dyer is, I believe, the only guy to have ever been called into the first presidency while never being called in the quorum of the 12. After Joseph Fielding Smith became President, Dyer was essentially kicked to the curb. Rumor has it that Joseph Fiedling Smith's wife had a sister whose husband was a MP in Europe when Dyer was up to his antics.

I don't know about any of that. But I do know that the talk ranks up there in the most offensive stuff I've ever read.

Also, J. Reuben Clark was called to the First Presidency without being an apostle. Only later was he called as an apostle and sustained as a member of the Q12.
