Let's just get rid of garments all together then. And while we're at it ... lets throw out the Word of Wisdom, the law of chastity, the ten commandments ...
Way too much "obsessing" going on here.
Now you are finally getting it.

I am not advocating that we rid ourselves of the garment. I think that it can be a powerful reminder and spiritual protection to many people. However I think we can lay off the whole "authorized" only retoric as it can really be a stumbling block to many people's spiritual growth. We already have enough ways of judging the righteousness of our fellow members that we can lay this one aside.

I understand your argument. What I don't understand is how you are determining what is inspired and what is "obsession".
And if it is just "rhetoric," as you say ... what is the purpose of the rhetoric? You have seemed to suggest that there could not be any possible reason for the Church to take this position. You explain it as "obsession". I say, for someone that is trying to make a rational argument ... that isn't good enough. The reason for the language in the handbook might not be inspired, and it might be a bad reason ... but there is a reason that it is there. Saying that there is no reason for it to be there just shows that either (1) you haven't thought about it hard enough, (2) the reason isn't transparent enough for you to identify without additional information, or (3) you are just ranting about a pet peeve and not making a rational argument at all.
I tend to think that your position is a mixture of 1 and 3 ... but maybe I am wrong. Maybe you have spent hours thinking about this issue but can't comprehend how such a rule could possibly have a purpose.

Is a binary worldview as boring as it seems?

I really would like to renew my temple recommend and would gladly wear garments in the temple, but I'm mostly fed up with the ill-fitting and poorly constructed garments. I'm also fed up with the modesty rhetoric. My shoulders and kneecaps aren't so lust-inducing that the mere sight of them will cause men to turn into raving sex beasts.
This well reasoned and tempered criticism has no place here. you obviously want to get rid of the commandments altogether.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Man ... you got me there. You completely undermined my whole point, even though it was completely unrelated to the comment you quoted. I wish I were as much of a genius as you are. Can you teach me how to think correctly?

Stick around and you'll get it over time. This board is like the modern day version of the School of the Prophets.

"Distribution AND sale of garments" not "Distibution OR sale." The distribution is only problematic in conjunction with the sale of garments. Since they don't sell the garments, the distribution doesn't matter.

furthermore, they aren't distributing them, they're receiving an item they didn't manufacture, customizing it and then returning to the original owners. They're selling a service. They're not manufacturing anything. They're no more a distributor of clothing than a tailor who specializes in alterations is, and I don't think a successful argument can be made in that regard.
