the "don't cast your pearls before swine" is a bullshit answer. the world has never in human history needed god more than now and if one of these pious gentlemen actually speaks with god, then g-dammit, speak up and let us poor saps know.

but, alas, god is silent with these men. the gaunlet is thrown down. answer in kind, dear TSM.

The Talmud says: "From the day the Temple was first destroyed, prophesy was taken away from prophets and given to children and to fools."

old time religion is what the mo'mon church was and it's precisely what it currently is not.

I'm saddened that Woot and Robin haven't replied in this thread yet. Hopefully they will soon.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Re-read what I said. I think you missed the point. I don't care for a miracle, I just think if you're paying people who purport to talk with God, that from time to time it's an acceptable demand to hear when they last spoke with him.

All believing Mormons think they talk to god and that he talks back through personal revelation. I would anticipate TMo saying that he talked to god this morning.

                This isn't a shareholders meeting, it's a church.

I don't know the answer to that question...but the whole speaking in tongues thing weirds me out a bit.

So what do you all think...are you 21st century Mormons only? Or could you do the 19th century version of the church as well?
I started reading it as well. I've only made it through the first 200 pages (baby steps...). I think I'd rather hang with the 19th century church, but that is probably just because I would have loved to see the church take shape and evolve.

One of my favorite parts of RSR is when he talks about how JS figured his work would be done after publishing the BOM. He probably had no idea really what was going to happen after he finished that work. It would have been fun to follow him around and see him shape and mold the church.

Also, there was no WoW back then so I would have probably had a winery on my property as well.

Man 19th century would be tough. But I think it'd be cool. That pioneer trek would suck though. Also getting called on a mission for years to another country and leaving my family to do so would suck. Getting tarred and feathered would suck. Maybe it wouldn't be so cool.

Extra long g's but beer is ok? I don't like beer enough to put on extra clothes. Many wives or just one? Their are some days I think I have one too many right now. I'll vote 21st.

Yeah right. The Anti-Pornography & Anti-Homosexuality Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has way more character than the 19th Century LDS Church. Keep telling yourself that. Whatever makes you feel better, sport.
