I think one of my mom's many disappointments was that none of us could sing as well as her. She truly has a really good voice.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostYou must be a good singer.

L. Tom was my dad's bishop as a kid. Richard Edgley the Stake Pres and Henry B. Eyring the region representative (not sure it was all at the same time).
My wife is a direct descendant of Hyrum Smith and got invited to his birthday whatever a few years back in the conference center.
She's also the 33rd great granddaughter of Charlemagne (and hence also related to most royalty in Europe), for what it's worth.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I'm not making these up.
My brother's best friend's ex-girlfriend's mother is TSM's secretary.
Elder Eyring was my uncle's home teacher.
President Hunter's granddaughter and her husband are close friends of ours.
Went to school with Elder Cook's son.
My sister-in-law's dad works church security and has known every prophet since SWK
I knew BKP's son at BYU
My busines partner sat next to Elder Perry on a plane
I sat in the seat in front of Elder Christenson once
I'm pretty sure I used a urinal right after one of the 12 used it
My roomate was the first person to attack Cody Judy
I've known a couple of Elder Eyring's relatives (I think their collective IQ's total around 90)
Elder Holland spit on us at a zone conference once. (He gets excited when he talks)
One of my college friend's dad was best friends with Elder Scott
My great great great grandfather was rebuked by Joseph Smith for telling Joseph that chopping wood was women's work.
I'll stop there, as I think I've demonstrated that I'm obviously well-connected.Last edited by cowboy; 04-12-2010, 08:03 AM.sigpic

You're a modern day Simonds Ryder except without the tar and feathers, perhaps?Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI have an autographed picture of David Haight, but he spelled my name incorrectly.
Howard W. Hunter's grandson is a friend and my wife taught L Tom's grand daughter in her 6th grade class several years ago. If you're not impressed enough with that stuff, Zera Pulsipher is a great, great, great grandfather who baptized Wilford Woodruff and who was himself a general authority.

President Eyring is my 1st cousin once removed.
President Kimball was my great-uncle.
President Romney was my great-uncle or something.
Elder Hafen is my cousin's father-in-law.

I was in BYU's geology program at the same time as Elder Eyring's son Henry, and got to know him quite well - had classes together, went to geology summer camp with him, studied together. Was invited to his wedding, and got to shake Elder Eyring's hand and talk to him briefly.
Interviewed for a faculty position at Ricks with Elder Bednar - was very impressed by him, but I suppose he wasn't impressed by me - I didn't get the job.
My father was involved in the conversion of Elder Adney Komatsu, the first member of the 70 of Asian descent. They kept in touch a bit throughout the years, so I met him and visited with him briefly.

At the same conference that I had dinner with then Elder Hinkley, my siblings and I sang for Elder Hinkley, Pres Tanner and several Asst to the Twelve, including Elders Haight and Ashton who later became apostles. This was a long, long time ago.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostMy siblings and I sang for BRM and his wife at a dinner function when they visited our overseas stake. He died shortly thereafter.
FTR I can't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it, but the mission pres liked our singing for some reason and asked my father to have us sing.
This is same conference that I heard Pres Hinkley swear over the pulpit
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

I'm almost positive that I met this same granddaughter. She was attractive, but IIRC, had either no personality or was kind of obnoxious.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View Post.
I once tried to date L. Tom's granddaughter.
Two of GBH's grandchildren were in my mission, one grandson and one granddaughter. The grandson really was one of the coolest, most laid back guys on the mission. He seemed to have some perspective beyond all the trappings of a mission. The granddaughter was watching the priesthood broadcast in the same room with me at the stake center when her grandpa mentioned that young women shouldn't feel the same need to serve missions like the young men do.
Neal A. Maxwell's grandson was also in my mission. He was also a very cool guy. I saw him at BYU after the mission and told him to get in his grandpa's ear to focus more of the church's missionary efforts in the South so we could get more brothers on the football team. He was laughing. I'm a racist bastard.
My first ward on my mission was President Uchtdorf's ward. Pres. Uchtdorf was in the area presidency for Western Europe which was stationed in Frankfurt. He had always lived in this area anyway due to his occupation with Lufthansa, he just never had to move for his church duties. My ward was in a town about 25-30 miles south of Frankfurt. I met Pres. Uchtdorf a couple times and he definitely had a commanding presence about him. I knew Pres. Uchtdorf's son in my first ward and then he was in a subsequent area of mine after he got married and was attending the university in Karlsruhe, Germany. His son was balding, severely, and didn't look anything like his dad. Nevertheless, his Swiss wife was incredibly beautiful and he met her in the celestial room of the Swiss temple. Pres. Uchtdorf's daughter also lived in my first ward and married an American guy.
My dad's buddy dated GBH's daughter and my dad sat and chatted with GBH for about 10 minutes one time while he and his friend were waiting for her.
About 4-5 guys from my dad's mission went on to become 70s. I can't remember all of them, but Hafen and Dellenbach were two of them. My dad thought Hafen was kind of a non-descript guy, while he thought Dellenbach was kind of a climber- ambitious type.Last edited by Color Me Badd Fan; 04-12-2010, 10:29 AM.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I was a big fan. We went on two dates and she stood me up for the third. She was a presidential scholar in my group. If she did like me, I'm sure she'll feel like she dodged a bullet if she ever reads my posts. She wore Daisy Dukes on our first date, which I interpreted as a positive. However, it's my understanding that it's generally a negative when a person stands you up. She was also a Republican.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm almost positive that I met this same granddaughter.
