The messenger is more important than the message. I would have been deeply hurt and offended if certain people said that. Coming from you, I am sure it is some kind of compliment although I don't know how it is.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post71 I would have never thought of you as the board lesbian expert but it's good to see your interest expand beyond golf and the HC.

Take it as a compliment. I figured you knew because you follow the LPGA.Originally posted by byu71 View PostThe messenger is more important than the message. I wonder if he's hoping the church will pony up the $45k or if enough women will chip in with the hopes of getting their husbands out to do their priesthood duty."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Your post makes me wonder about visiting teaching. Do they keep records on visiting teaching? How does the percentages of visiting teaching done stack up vs home teaching?Originally posted by Moliere View Posthttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects...?ref=discovery

Yes, records are kept. In fact there is a calling (visiting teaching supervisor) where 4-8 women only collect the stats. Yes, that's right, that is their entire calling and for some women it is very stressful.Originally posted by byu71 View PostYour post makes me wonder about visiting teaching. VT numbers also beat out HT, but VT can be done by text or in the hallway at church. No in home visit is required, so there's no apples to apples comparison, but I can guarantee that in our ward the in house VT numbers would also beat out all Ht numbers any month of the year."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. And in spite of that, most women spend 90 minutes or more on each VT visit.Originally posted by Moliere View PostYes, records are kept. A guy in my old ward in Texas already designed such an app, and then the Church shut it down. To ensure that his hard work didn't go to waste, he started reaching out to Catholic priests, who now use it to track who they visit each week to ensure that none of their flock slip through the cracks.Originally posted by Moliere View Posthttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects...?ref=discovery

I guess I'm not surprised, but it's always a little disappointing to me to see how quick the church is to shut down people that take the initiative to do something that they think would be beneficial. I remember when they sent out a letter a few years ago telling everyone that had designed an organization-specific website (for their ward or whatever) to cease and desist. No "thank you" or "we appreciate the effort but..." Just a blanket "knock-it-off."Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostA guy in my old ward in Texas already designed such an app, and then the Church shut it down. For all the bromides about the church being run like a business, it doesn't seem very savvy when it comes to HR or boosting employee morale.Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost.

Remember when one member removed the chapters and verse from the BoM to make it into a narrative. He was told to stop and his membership was threatened, only to see the Church offer the same format later?Originally posted by Harry Tic View PostI guess I'm not surprised, but it's always a little disappointing to me to see how quick the church is to shut down people that take the initiative to do something that they think would be beneficial.
