They do have a stat for average percentage attendance at Sacrament Meeting don't they. Ward attendance at Sacrament meeting divided by ward members. I realize that would be a different stat that what you were referring to.

Anyone know what the average attendance is at Sacrament meeting as a percent of members.

I only know for our ward. It fluctuates between 25-35%.

Seems like a good purge is in order. Maybe we ought to get tougher like Bronco. If you can't keep your committment, we will withdraw our offer. Since we don't care how big the church looks in numbers, kicking out a few million members might be good.

This makes me feel better about my mission experience. In 1973, in my mission (Franco-Belge), we had 93 baptisms for the entire year. In 1974, in an effort to clean up the rolls, weed out those who no longer desired membership, and otherwise deal with some out and out apostates, our mission president conducted church courts throughout the mission, and we ended up excommunicating about 500 people. So in essence, my mission was significantly in the red when it came to increasing church membership. Notwithstanding this, those experiences created a number of strong leaders in the Church today, both in France and amongst the missionaries who served there.

My very first home teaching assignment as an Elder was with my dad, removing people from our ward's membership roles. It wasn't particularly fun. One guy pulled out a shotgun...

If that was done, I wonder how much church attendance would increase. Of course you would have some who would stop going. There would be less measures to seperate themselves from the unrighteous and church wouldn't be as fun anymore.

You've got a point there. I think a few in my ward would like to step it up a bit with perhaps an extra hour of church where we beat each other with a sackcloth just to truly separate the righteous from those that are luke warm.

Data I've seen generally indicates that in the Mormon "core" (Utah and parts of Idaho and Wyoming), attendance avgs about 55%. In the rest of the United States, 45% is about right. Once you get out of the U.S. and Canada, the numbers drop to around 25%. But there is considerable variation - I've seen my stake's numbers (in the midwest). 12 units, with a range between about 30% and 70%. As a stake, if I remember correctly, we were just under 50% - I'm thinking 48 or 49%.

But it isn't the same 55% each week - some people are sick, others out of town, some people come out infrequently, etc. So if we are looking at the pct of members who retain some connection to the church (coming to Sac Mtg at least once a year), I'd guess you need to add 10-15% to each of these numbers.

Our branch averaged 25%-30% to sacrament, but we probably were close to having 50%-60% of the branch attending sacrament at least once a quarter. That's probably a little extreme example, but it shows the difference between average attendance vs a "once every..." attendance.
