Why should we have the assumption that murdering is a bad thing?

Exactly. We don't know anything. What if murdering is good and helping old ladies cross the street is bad? What if Satan was really the good guy, but lost? Like when BYU loses to Utah.

Assuming you pass the logical hurdle about the existence of a God, it should be just as logical that God is a benevolent being. If he was really into effing things up, the world wouldn't be nearly as nice as it is. To visualize a supreme being that is capable of creating a universe but is relatively impotent in terms of inflicting misery on its creations is a bit silly.

RF, I promise to be your friend in eternal darkness if this is the case.

My brother literally believes we are the ultimate computer...self replicating, programmed to the hilt but in our dna, the ultimate computer code. If he's right, I doubt existence exists beyond our demise. I think he's probably right. I cease to exist. So what? Why does that have to be so bad? At least my jaw won't hurt any more.

One difference: I will high five Joseph. And Brigham. I will kick Boyd K Packer in the jimmy, however

The world isn't that nice. It's polluted and full of people that want to harm other people. His kingdoms are all supposedly nicer than earth. Maybe God just got bored with us. He inflicted a bunch of torture on the OT people and it was just too easy so he just got bored.

I honestly think it is entirely possible that there is another world out there with a different God with a different set of rules. Some of the things that are "bad" in this world are not bad there and vice versa. Drinking beer there is acceptable, but milk is prohibited.

I've always had food, clothing and shelter and a few toys here and there. God needs to work harder, I'm getting away with murder.

No no no, I don't think you understand. In this thread I mean 'effed' in the bad way, not 'effed' in the good way.

all kidding aside, I think this is one of the most fascinating gospel ruminations to explore. How will not ceasing to exist upon death affect our behavior? Will it at all?

Robin thanks for giving an honest reply. I've asked that similar question to LDS peeps concerning the beliefs of other faiths ("hypothetically speaking, what would you do if the [denomination] account of [armageddon/rapture/end of days] came to pass?") and they overwhelmingly dodge the question, generally responding with something like, "that question is moot because it will never happen."
