'Beholden' is a loaded term. Are you talking about those who joined his church-like swinging groups, or anyone who listened to his podcasts in the past? Count me (and I assume not a few here) in the latter group. Was I attached emotionally to his work? I guess, if you call listening to his podcasts in the past. But I think I and others in a similar situation can see pretty clearly now.Originally posted by creekster View PostI am not sure you're right about this, to be honest. I think reasonable people who are able to sift good from ridiculous and prudent from imprudent as they approach their life would never have been beholden to Dehlin at all. Those that were attached to Dehlin financially or emotionally are, IMO, very likely unable to engage in such sifting successfully.
Might want to ask Moliere his thoughts however. JD probably used to be his patron saint of podcasts!"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Listening to his podcasts is not a big deal. I listened to a few, but found him to be tedious more often than interesting. But I never even considered giving him money, nor did it ever occur to me to emulate his world view or to let him lead me anywhere for any purpose. But the people Cowboy is talking about are not like mne nor, I suspect, like you. I think you know what I mean.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post'Beholden' is a loaded term. While I have very often thought you were a jerk in your posts, I never gave much thought to the reasons why becasue, no offense, but you really weren't worth it. BUT YOUR EMOTICON RESPONSE HERE SEEMS TO SUPPORT COWBOY'S VIEWS. SO HE'S EITHER RIGHT, OR YOU PLAYED THE PART TO REINFORCE YOUR DESIRED TROLL PERSONALITY (WHIHC IS STUPID, IMO) or you are not smart enough to see why, which I doubt and whihc would still mean you are a jerk.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postnot you too!
Sorry about the all caps. I am not a good typist.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

This is hilarious.
So what is the creekster-approved response when someone calls you a lazy clueless slacker?

I'll give you that, but just how many people are we talking about? I can't imagine there are more than a relative handful of vocal people who supported him financially or joined his groups, who are now floundering because they followed Dehlin's apostate ways (as per Cowboy). I have to think this group is much smaller than the ones who 'supported' him by listening to him or just agreeing with him.Originally posted by creekster View PostListening to his podcasts is not a big deal. So when I post something like this you say I am calling from the peanut gallery. Is that what you're doing here? It wouldn't matter if it is the same, of course, because hypocrisy is a meaningless criticism. As you have so often taught us.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThis is hilarious.

OG can post whatever he wants, which is what he always does. I don't approve or disapprove on that basis. But he invited my comment, in case you weren't following along.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I'm sure you're likely right. I have no idea how many we are talking about. But looking at some of the threads of comments might give you an idea, I suppose.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostI'll give you that, but just how many people are we talking about? I think Dehlin really does disbelieve the LDS church. I think he's sincere about that.Originally posted by cowboy View PostMaybe it is, but at least I take the time to lay out my thoughts and opinions rather than constantly type one-line criticisms with no substance or reasoning behind them. It's no secret that I believe the Church is a positive influence, and in that frame of reference of course I would. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

When? When he said he was a follower while doing the podcasts? Or when he took a break from the church but refused to withdraw his membership? Or did he believe it when his wife threatened to leave him and he returned to activity? Or perhaps it was when he attended the church court while surreptitiously recording it? He's been all over the place for along time and from afar it looks like he was possibly doing this to make sure he kept the donations flowing from as many people as possible. I think you would see it exactly that way if his final position didn't delight you.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI think Dehlin really does disbelieve the LDS church.
