Women never say the prayers in General Conference?

I agree. Scottie's effectiveness in airing any gripes lies in an understated socratic approach (hey, I'm just askin'). His thread starters are masterful; he's the Randy Johnson of thread starters. That's what pisses Indy off. Scottie wins; Indy loses.Originally posted by scottie View PostDespite what you think, that's not my style; I think I'm very mellow in my LDS Church gripes. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Indy's expletive was more offensive than scottie's, especially since it came in a thread about LDS oppression of women:
Why were you only offended by scottie's?
it was a comparison. I didnt say offended, I said annoyed and I said more annoyed. Why are you in such a hurry to stir things up like this? Rather than deal with the issue you revel in trying to create drama where none need exist. Sometimes this works well, but someitmes you shoudl give it a rest.
I take it your imaginings havent borne much fruit?PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I can't believe that you're the one complaining about Scottie being predictable. Anyone who has been on this board more than a week could have scripted your response to Scottie.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostThat's a complete misrepresentation of my "argument".
The point I'm making is that scottie will endeavor to frame any issue in such a way to take a shot at a shortcoming of the church. And if perchance someone was to provide evidence to the contrary about the GC Prayer Manifesto, this would simply be used in turn by scottie to spawn some new gripe because he's going to keep moving that target."The mind is not a boomerang. If you throw it too far it will not come back." ~ Tom McGuane

Your approach to the LDS Church is similar to Chinese Water Torture. As mellow as a drop of water but very doggedly consistent. This is not a call for you to change so take no offense and I wish you luck in you goal to make sense of it all. I had an aunt from Carrey who was quite a tomboy, her daughter was a tomboy but her sons ended up batting for the Utes...is it the water or all that crap coming from the center of the Universe from all those Hollywood elite out of the People's Republic of Blaine County?Originally posted by scottie View PostDespite what you think, that's not my style; I think I'm very mellow in my LDS Church gripes.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

No, it's Indy who started this rather than address the merits. He attacked scottie personally rather than address the merits.Originally posted by creekster View Postverb vs noun.

What constitutes a personal attack? I certainly have taken issue with his posting content, but I don't believe I have actually called him names.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostNo, it's Indy who started this rather than address the merits. Is it just me, or has this board seen this thread in some form about a billion times.
Someone complaining about some really small detail of the LDS church (in this case Scottie).
Indycoug responding in a 'you have got to be kidding' manner.
Seattleute piling on like a ravenous wolf.
BYU71 somehow tying it in to being a 'true' fan and scheduling weak opponents.
Tripletdaddy defending free speech on the board and being yet again dissapointed in this new revelation. Yet, still his great testimony will get him through.
Goatnappers obligatory response concerning boobs.
Is this what hell will be like, a neverending argument which has to be carried out even though we know everyones stance already?

I thought that I remembered women praying in GC, but rather that participating in the pointless back and forth that you all are engaged in, I went out and got some cold, hard facts.
The Ensign (preferred pronunciation: N’sign, not N’sun), looks like it started listing the prayers in 2002. They skipped the September 2007 sessions, but aside from that, I looked at every session and did not see any women in the general sessions. While this obviously doesn't prove anything, it does represent over 100 prayers, so I think it is good evidence.
I was initially excited because in the April 2009 Priesthood session, Shirley Christensen said the benediction. Unfortunately, it turns out Shirley is a man. He also prayed in the Sunday Morning session in April, 2005, so evidently someone likes his prayers.
Also of interest, in the 2 or so years before being called to the Q of the 12, Elders Cook, Christofferson, and Andersen ALL said a prayer in a session of conference. Liberal Mormons will be happy to note that Marlin Jensen said the invocation Sunday Morning in October. So I think that there is a good chance that we will have another Democrat Apostle in the near future. Or possibly an Apostle named Shirley.
Hope this helps.
