Usually our RS room is turned into a spook ally, which takes me back to my childhood. All the bad makeup and perfume smells made that place kind of spooky growing up anyway.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Are the people that don't let their kids trick or treat the same people that don't let their kids attend sleepovers?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

          Some rival Utah has:

University students in America have been told not to wear "offensive" halloween costumes including cowboys, indians and anything involving a sombrero.

Students at the University of Colorado Boulder have also been told to avoid "white trash" costumes and anything that portrays a particular culture as "over-sexualised"- which the university says includes dressing up as a geisha or a "squaw" (indigenous woman).

They are also asked not to host parties with offensive themes including those with “ghetto” or "hillbilly" themes or those associated with "crime or sex work."

They used to do a haunted house in our stake growing up as part of a Halloween dance they'd have. That is until one year some of the kids working it were accused of groping girls in one of the haunted rooms. That put an end to the haunted houses. But they still had the youth dance.

There seemed to be a lot of groping in these pictures too.

                          And, therefore, the groping.

So I am reassigned to the primary, a calling I was super hating until I met my class. They're very sweet and loving 8 year olds.

Anyway I was asking them about Trunk or Treat, which is this Friday, verses Trick or Treat, apparently next Monday.

Katy: So what's this Trunk or Treat I am hearing about?
Class: Yeah! you decorate your car and put lots of treats in it. And then we come by and get treats.
Katy: And how did this tradition of Trunk or Treat get started? What is it for?
                            Class: ...?
Katy: Do you kids feel that it is dangerous to trick or treat in our neighborhood?
                            Class: ...?
Me: Let me ask you something else. How many of you are going trick or treat on Halloween night?
                            Class: Meeeeeee! (All hands raised)
Katy: Then how many of you are going to the trunk or treat on Friday night?
                            Class: Meeeeeee! (All hands raised)
Katy: So Trunk or Treat is really second Halloween, and I'm being conned into buying twice as much candy?
                            Class: Uh-huh!!!!

Nowadays most kids get 3 halloweens: Trick or Treat, Trunk or Treat, and parent's work Trick or Treat. An immense amount of candy that lasts until the Christmas candy gets rolled out.

(And thank you Vivant, where every kid goes home with minimum 10 pounds of candy!)

One of the parents caught wind of my grousing and told me, "Well we're not going to the Lied's house this year."
Me (thinking): I'd rather you skip my house when you come by selling $40 coupon books and $12 buckets of cookie dough.

                              You are not wrong.

That said. What I like about the trunk or treat is that it seems much more parent friendly.

We get to hang out with other adults and visit with friends while the kids are running back and forth to the various trunks, rather than walking around the block and waving from the sidewalk.

Why don't you take that trunk or treat candy, along with the candy from work, have your kid pick their favorites, and then recycle the rest on halloween? Then maybe they only end up with the "same" amount of candy they would've got if they'd only done one of these candy gathering activities - but it's the good stuff!
