I tuned it out, quite frankly.Originally posted by camleish View PostAA and DU, I didnt mean to offend, nor was disrespect intended. I just look forward to a changing of the guard when compassion is valued as much as the "not so" mentality. I have a difficult time reconciling president Uchtdorf's talk last night with that.

Still trying to figure out what BKP was saying there. I think I will need to read the transcript.
Here's what I got out of it: gay people will still be gay no matter how often people vote to overturn their homosexuality at the ballot box. Their homosexuality is eternal, like the law of gravity.

To voice my opposition to the talk I found to be personally insensitive and offensive. But let's not bother anyone else with that here. Pm me if you're really interested in that discussion, to which I have nothing new to add.Originally posted by Jacob View PostThen I don't understand what could have been the purpose of that comment.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

I don't think it was a vacation property. The Eyrings had a little place in the greater Bay Area related to his job teaching at Stanford Business school. With real estate the way it has been in that area over the years I have no idea why they would find it hard to sell.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostElder Eyring gives inspirational advice for those in the Church struggling with the financial crisis and being underwater in their homes: God will help you sell your vacation properties in order to pay off your mortgage.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I have the exact same conversation with my mother.Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostNumber of annual telephone calls received by me from my mother inquiring what my favorite GC talk was| 2

percentage of time she will respond "they were all so good"| 100
Although I actually did attend priesthood session last night so that my wife would have an excuse to go party with her church friends. So I can probably at least reference one of those talks.

What's the haps with bkp's talk? I didn't hear this morning's session because I was accidentally outside shooting baskets and washing my car.
I would be interested in a summary of the points he made that were so controversial.....although it would be good to get a summary from both sides....maybe sooner and indy or some such.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Yeah -- I think it was funny the way he told it. (Paraphrasing) We were trying to figure out if we could follow the Prophet's advice to pay off our mortgage. Then we suddenly remembered, hey we have a property we could sell, let's call our realtor in San Francisco and see if we can speed that up.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI don't think it was a vacation property. He should have followed it up with, "Then I remembered that we could ask God to help us sell our boat, our motorhome, and our private jet, and if we exercise enough faith, maybe that will help us follow the Prophet's advice."
Kidding of course, Elder Eyring is great and it's unfortunately an unavoidable part of my nature to mentally pick apart these talks

What I heard was that God doesn't make gay people but if you think you are gay you still have the power to overcome your gayness. I may have just heard it wrong.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostStill trying to figure out what BKP was saying there. I think I will need to read the transcript.

Hal also has a vacation home in Sun Valley I heard. Funny story the Sun Valley ward during the Winter and Summer get many visitors and they have to guess for sacrament. That is in my stake. But one time in Sunday School someone wanted to know who put something in the manuel. Hal said I did and talked to them after the meeting. Recently though Gordon wanted the apostles within 100 miles of Salt Lake during vacation time. They are in recess for July. So Hal didn't go up there anymore but his kids do.
Boyd gave a straight talk on chastity and Dallin on following the brethern. Dallin said the Lord does not tell you to disobey the prophets. But don't ask them on some things you can ask yourself. A theme this conference has been to follow the prophet don't criticize them.
For someone that has been through the temple I don't know how they can promise not to criticize them than say people that are more spiritual than them that the servants are out of touch.

Yeah, that makes a little more sense. He was being pretty vague so I was trying to fill in the blanks in a logical way.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostWhat I heard was that God doesn't make gay people but if you think you are gay you still have the power to overcome your gayness. Here is a link that quotes some of the talk:

Not vouching for the source, just one of the only things that came up on google. The senior apostle also rejected the notion that same-sex attraction – which he called “impure and unnatural” – is inborn. “Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone?” he rhetorically asked.
EDIT: BTW, I am looking forward to the explanations of how he actually meant something other than what he said.Last edited by UtahDan; 10-03-2010, 01:12 PM.
