I don't think any of our Thanksgiving dinner will be from scratch. He's kind of lazy.

I try to go as close to ultimate scratch as I can for Thanksgiving, to the point of doing stuff like making homemade bread for the stuffing.

Rolls and pies definitely have to be from scratch. Those are probably the two things I eat most on Thanksgiving.

Thanks FM, I appreciate it. Well, I'll appreciate it if you find it and post it.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

We make everything ourselves but the pies, and we do have a weakness for Marie Callender's pies, especially the pumpkin. We do the meal at our place in SLC these days and my MIL brings the pies in from the Bountiful Marie Callender's.

The last few years I've brined the turkey with a brining mix from Williams-Sonoma. I'm open to trying others, though. Does anyone have a recommendation?

The Bountiful Marie Callendar's is closed. A new homestyle restaraunt called Granny Annie's is opene there now. They do a great breakfast, but I'm not sure if they do pies.

If it's the same Granny Annie's from Kaysville that is an awesome diner. Don't know about pies though.

That means we're limited to the 33rd South Marie's. We'll see how motivated I am to go out there and wait.

It seems odd that Marie Callender's is dying out in the greater Salt Lake area. It's pretty decent comfort food, after all. Those places are still plentiful around SoCal.

I feel the same way although I don't like store bought pies but find bakery pies to be fine. I, however, prefer homemade fruit pies couple with Blue Bell ice cream. Yum! And by homemade, I don't mean buying a can of fruit pie filling.

I'm a pie fanatic. I make my own pies though out the year. MJ is also a dynamite pie maker. There's a bakery in Houston called House of Pies which is delish, and I go out of my way at least once a month to eat lunch there.

As for rolls, my mom makes the absolute best rolls in the history of rolls. She taught MJ the recipe and its taken a good 3-4 years for MJ to get it right. I'll seriously eat half my meal as rolls. Store bought rolls make me gag.

                      What happened to Frontier Pies?

IIRC, the owners and employees were all involved in an international weapons smuggling ring when the FBI eventually caught wind of what was going on and shut them down. It was either that or they went out of business because they didn't have enough customers.

It is the same. I think they have three locations now.

It is really sad to think that people can get drawn into a world like that. Sad story.

If you want great rolls, just go to a Deseret Book with a Pantry Shop inside and pick up Lion House rolls.

I don't really see how you top that.

                                They are pretty much homemade.
