Danimal only has Thursday off. The kids are off all week. In the past I have worked my tail off trying to clean our house, make a completely from scratch meal (including pies, rolls and cranberry sauce) while taking care of my crazy kids so we can have friends over for a few hours of gluttony. It's not worth it.

This year we're going to the Hilton buffet instead. I'm going to be laid back mom all week while my kids are off from school. I am not going to freak when my house gets trashed with kids going in and out from the neighborhood.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

When you are laid back does that mean you don't get upset when the kids wear shoes?

In Oregon we have Shari's and Marie Calendars pies. Shari's is the better pie. A couple of years ago we brought Shari's pies, and someone else brought Marie's pies, and 100% of the pie off participants preferred Shari's.

This year we're going to Grandma's House for Thanksgiving. Probably about 40 family members. Everyone will bring something. My sister is the worst cook in the world. She has no natural instinct in this, and doesn't care. Come to think of it, she's probably broke bad on purpose through the years, as nobody couldn't be 100% bad on everything they've ever cooked.

Son and new DIL are coming up from Provo. Will be nice to see them.

I'm with FN and Doug on this one. While I certainly prefer from scratch, I grew up on canned, and I can enjoy that as well. And it sure slices up neatly for sandwiches the next day.

EDIT: FTR, I am in love with Alton Brown's cranberry sauce recipe, and I will be making that for the third year in a row.

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Sounds like you are with me on this one, actually.

And I agree, you need a little OJ for a good cranberry sauce.

The convenience of easily-sliced cranberry sauce must rival that of other conveniently-sliced condiments such as congealed mustard or mayonnaise. I wouldn't know, of course, because I've never had trouble making a sandwich with homemade cranberry sauce.

                    actually yes.

Those two didn't rank their preference between scratch and canned.

                    You did. And I did.

We both have already stated clearly that we prefer from scratch. The other two haven't. As it stands, the only sure conclusion we can draw is that you and I prefer home made over canned. So it is illogical for you to align yourself with a position that has yet to be clearly stated.

                    thank you.

I have chosen to align myself with a position which appreciates both "home made" [sic] cranberry sauce as well as canned cranberry sauce, irrespective of which form is ultimately preferred.

I choose not to align myself with a position which is wholly unappreciative--yea, even dismissive--of canned cranberry sauce. To wit, my alignment with FN and Doug is an expression of my love for cranberry sauce in all its forms; I cannot agree that your position and my position are more aligned, despite our shared love of homemade cranberry sauce.

P.S. I add orange zest to Alton's recipe, for extra zing.

These rolls from Sams Club are a good replacement for homemade.

I also really like Costco's pumpkin pie.

We had a pumpkin pie from Harmon's the other week that was one of the best I've ever had.

You store bought rolls people are crazy. At least do the ones that come frozen.

I don't eat mayonnaise, because it is disgusting, but I would be down to try some sliceable mustard. If anyone sees some, will you pick me up a can?

If anyone has a great roll recipe, I would love to try it. I have tried several of the "best" online recipes, but none were very good.
