MJ asked for steak and potatoes. That should be easy."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Shockingly enough, my mom has asked for this exact meal again this year for Mothers Day.Originally posted by Drunk Tank View PostLooks great! We had basically the same thing. I didnt use the same recipe as you though.
Skirt steak on the Weber

Asparagus on my ugly drum smoker turned grill...

Grilled pineapple with vanilla ice cream, sprinkled with more cinnamon and chili powder.
Sorry for the blurry pics. I need a new camera."I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's a$$, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it". - Tommy Callahan III

I tried this recipe on the Traeger. It was very moist and tender, however, I felt it lacked flavor. We had to salt and pepper the chicken to taste. Pics to follow.Originally posted by Drunk Tank View PostI used a new cheicken recipe I found posted on a bbq blog I visit. It is from Adam Perry Lang's "BBQ 25".

It turned out great! The brine made it very moist and tender. Because the temps in my BBQ were a little love, I did finish them under the broiler of my oven for a couple minutes to crisp the skin up.

I also cooked up some tri-tip and baked beans. Everything turned out great!

Looks good. I havn't used that recipe since last mothers day, so I have forgotten the details, but too bad it was bland. I will usually add S&P regardless of what the recipe calls for.Originally posted by FN Phat View PostFresh off of the grill:

Thanks for the recipe! My mom and wife thought it was a hit, so all-in-all I am calling it a success.Originally posted by Drunk Tank View PostLooks good. My mom doesn't care for much spice, so it was perfect for her...you could salt and paper to taste. The brine did a fine job with making the meat moist and tender...just lacked flavor

Already started the prep for this Mother's Day dinner. On the menu are:
Grilled steak - Nothing fancy, using mesquite lump charcoal for the grilling. MJ likes her steak medium with lots of worschetshire sauce (not a fan) so I'll try a rouille sauce and get her to try it. Worschetshire will be on hand of course if needed
Grilled salmon - Making it a surf 'n turf meal. I don't like salmon but she loves it. The kids also love salmon
Grilled asparagus - never made it but seems easy enough, plus while I have coals going I might as well use the heat
ABTs - These are more for me and my oldest son, again just using the heat/coals since the steak/salmon won't take up more than half my grill
Breadsticks -
Fruit kabobs - guess we need something not grilled
Creme brulee - she's making this for the first time. Time to break out the propane torch
Haven't figured out the drink yet. She wants water, which is too easy. I thought of picking up one of those Bacardi frozen things and just making a non-alcoholic daiquiri. We haven't done that in years.
We only have sacrament meeting tomorrow so I should have enough time to get everything ready in time for 5pm dinner

Just make sure you don't overcook it. Medium rare. ~130 degrees if you have a thermapen.
Can't believe you haven't done these. Probably the most common grilled veggie. You and your son should share them.Originally posted by Moliere View PostGrilled asparagus - never made it but seems easy enough, plus while I have coals going I might as well use the heat

Super easy. Brush with olive oil and and dust with some seasoning. Turn frequently so they don't burn. I am going to do some of these tomorrow myself.
Forget that. Make brazilian lemonade. Very easy and outstanding flavor.Originally posted by Moliere View PostHaven't figured out the drink yet. She wants water, which is too easy. The bigger question is who the hell eats steak medium with lots of steak sauce? Anyone who needs more than salt, pepper and maybe garlic salt on a steak has never had a good piece of meat. Come on, Moliere, time to open the wallet and buy a choice tenderloin for the mother of your children.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhat kind of person doesn't like grilled salmon?

That sounds delicious but two cups of sugar for six cups of water seems a bit high for a fat old man like me .Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostForget that. Make brazilian lemonade. Very easy and outstanding flavor.
