What's a gas grill?Originally posted by FMCoug View PostIs that a gas grill? In the south? You'll be laughed out of the place!
I love my grill. I used mesquite lump charcoal yesterday and the flavor/heat were perfect. I've got a platform in the grill where I put the coals and I can raise/lower the platform with a hand crank, which allows me to control the direct heat. I also love the seasoned grates. Nothing sticks to them as long as I keep them seasoned well enough. The fish slid right off with no problem.
I haven't grilled with gas in over 8 years."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. What kind of grill is it? I'm not a fan of seasoned grates although they look cool, I guess--too hard to keep them seasoned and not rusting--but I've been toying with getting an adjustable height grill. It would be nice for tri tip or even steak for a reverse sear.Originally posted by Moliere View PostWhat's a gas grill?

It's a Bar-b-chef like this one (although I'm not sure if they make them anymore):Originally posted by ERCougar View PostWhat kind of grill is it? I first owned a small Weber, which was good but I wanted to smoke as well as grill. This grill is big enough that I can smoke on it with the heat source on one side and the meat on the other. The problem is that temps are hard to maintain for smoking, which is why I bought the WSM. Now I use this grill for pretty much all grilling, but we also do dutch ovens and other things like that on it as it's big enough and solid enough to handle that stuff.
The grates are actually easy to maintain. I spray them down with cooking spray before putting the meat on. The coals will usually last 2-3 hours at a decent temp, but I usually only need 30 mins or less depending on what I'm grilling (and how much). After I pull the meat, I just use a sturdy brush to scrape off the grates, then I apply a liberal amount of cooking spray on the grates, crank up the coal so they are close to the grates and just let the coals run out while it reseasons the grates.
The adjustable height is a must have for charcoal grills, at least in something like this grill. Some Webers you can control the temp with vents but this grill doesn't have that luxury given it's size and the way it's built. The adjustable height makes it nice to where I can immediately change the temp depending on the height of the coals. The coal box is also split into 3 sections so I can easily control the temps across the grill. Last night I had more coals under the meat and less coals under the asparagus and no coals under the ABTs."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. This year MJ wanted surf and turf so I picked up a couple prime steaks and some shrimp. Add in some asparagus and ABTs (still can't believe she wanted those) and the meal turned out fabulous. She likes her steaks well and I like them medium rare, so I compromised with a medium, which turned out nice.

Bacon-wrapped shrimp, huh? Haven't tried that before. We had a big family dinner last week (brisket), and knew it would just be the two of us this week, so my wife asked me to make up some poppers (last week). So tasty (and brisket leftovers all this past week!).Originally posted by Moliere View PostThis year MJ wanted surf and turf so I picked up a couple prime steaks and some shrimp.
