I've never tried the beef, that's good to know. I absolutely love the Spade L Ranch fish rub on salmon. Delicious.

I like Spade L, but man it is expensive. With as much smoking as I do, I can't afford to use it much.

                    Double-posting from the brisket thread:

                    -------------------

I dropped by the Lehi BBQ store yesterday to see if they had any Plowboy beef rub as I was planning to do a brisket today. Sadly, they did not but they told me that they had something better. I ended up buying a package of Black Ops brisket rub (see below). I tried it today and WOW! It was outstanding. This will be my standard brisket rub going forward.

It has coffee in it. Thanks for nothing, Lebowski.

Bolivian coffee?? I served my mission there and the coffee was of such poor quality even the locals didn't drink it. Coca tea and mate were the common beverages. Must taste better as a rub than as a drink.

Plus, if someone had land that was fertile enough to grow coffee, they weren't using it to grow coffee!

I just jumped out of bed and realized I forgot to start the smoke that we are counting on for tomorrow.

I know rubs that have "too much" brown sugar are supposed to be bad if it cooks to very dark brown/ black, but they have always been my favorite. If you don't go for the blackened crispy bark, what flavor are you shooting for? Spice and sugar are the only flavors that seem to stick around for this non refined smokers pallet.

Don't mind me. I'm just posting this so I don't lose it. This yields a little over half of a large empty Tones spice container.

                              Old:
                              2 Cups Brown Sugar
                              2/3 cup sea salt
                              2 Tablespoons Cayenne Pepper
                              2 Teaspoons Cumin
                              3 Tablespoons Garlic Powder

                              New:
                              1 Cup Brown Sugar
                              2/3 cup sea salt
                              1/4 cup Cayenne Pepper
                              2 Teaspoons Cumin
                              1/4 cup Garlic Powder
                              1/4 cup Onion Powder

New was hot, and good. A little too salty, try 1/3 cup sea salt next time.

Do we talk about sauces in this thread? Anyway, I finally had Salt Lick sauce on Sunday. Didn't realize it was so mustardy - I loved it. My Dad was not a fan. We had brisket and sausage at his house - a Christmas present from Salt Lick sent by my brother in Texas. Anyway, my Dad sent the rest of the bottle home with me, so that's good. My sister in KC also sent my Dad bbq for Christmas. Her package was from Jack Stack and she also sent a couple bottles of Rufus Teague. Apparently my sister is good friends with the Rufus Teague guys and didn't realize they were selling their sauce now. They have had a bbq team in KC for some time.
