Do you ever just make an argument without alluding to it in a way that you know most of your audience won't get? Seems pretty cowardly.

Either way, it's clear that you're trying to make an extremely stupid argument involving drinking during pregnancy hurting the fetus meaning that no one should ever drink. Are you willing to own up to this ridiculous argument, or are you content to just remind us all about how doctory you are? Yes, doctorcoug, you're a doctor. You save lives. You are an amazing man that we can all only hope to emulate. We are honored at your presence here.

You do realize the strength of recommendation for this is C. Unlike mammaries, C and D are undesireable. Strength of Recommendation D is what an orthopedist would write at a bar on a napkin (I stole this qoute from an orthopedist).

Americans would do better to lose twenty pounds than drink an alcohol unit every night.

No. you make the typical zoobie assumption that just because one enjoys an occasional drink, they are destined for alcoholism, and the potentially disastrous health consequences that follow.

The reality is the vast majority of the world drinks in moderation.

I don't need to lose 20 lbs, unlike you.

              Lighten up. I'm joking.

That is not a pregnant woman. That depicts what happens in end stage liver failure. Abdomen fills up with liters of fluid (I've seen 23 liters taken out of the belly of an alcoholic).

Obviously this doesn't happen in but a very small minority of patients.

                20? I need to lose 40.

You better get on that and stop procreating.

Procreating? There is some good evidence for that and its health benefits

                      Are you accounting for stress?

You make Catholics look like they have a small family strategy.

Such as the celebration of the dawn of a new day? How about to honor our hunter gatherer ancestors over a nice lunch? And who can go to bed without a nightcap?

An icy cold vodka martini (shaken and no vermouth!) is a great wind down tool after an intense and rewarding day, and a great pre-dinner cocktail, maybe with appetizers.
A vodka martini without vermouth is just vodka with an olive. You may as well keep your Kettle One in the freezer (I do) and drink straight from the bottle and call that a martini. Without the vermouth you have no martini.

Maybe in part because vodka is mixed with water in varying degrees in a martini, I find martinis wildly divergent in how they affect me. Sometimes or usually one is enough; sometimes it hardly has an effect. Food intake and sleep quotient are also factors.
Who mixes water into a vodka martini? Are you just talking about the bit of ice that melts when in the shaker? If that is a factor in the martini experience, then your bartender isn't making it right (which we already know, since s/he isn't adding vermouth).
Yes, I know, martini snobs prefer a high end gin martini. But I remember Tolstoy and Dostoevsky when I drink vodka, and for me smooth is always preferable to complexity. Yes, I know, I'm a bumpkin.
I agree that there is nothing wrong with sweet drinks. As to your thoughts about Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, I think that nostalgia is one of the better reasons to choose certain drinks. I enjoy Glenfiddich, but I drink more JW Black due to Hitchens nostalgia. Likewise, I would probably never order a White Russian if it weren't for The Big Lebowski.

And don't forget the tequila. Good tequila is every bit as sophisticated and pleasurable as a fine single malt.

                          You mean the stress release?

Back to the topic at hand, it will be interesting to see what the population of the church does if some higher quality alcohol studies come out. Maybe they continue to attribute the health benefits to the grapes? Does the church allow one drink a day?

When I used to smoke cigars, I loved a good bourbon with it. My go-to bourbons are Bulleit and Knob Creek. My special occasion bourbon is Booker's.

Doctor, why don't you post some pics of people too fat to get out of bed and diabetics with with amputations and blindness? That would be cool.
