You have your first world class spirit (that I know of).

Well, it isn't distilled in Utah. It is distilled in Indiana and bottled by High West.

Isn't that a stop gap while their won stuff ages? Michters is one of the best bourbon and ryes, if not the best, and it doesn't make its own stuff.

Not a stop gap. A huge portion of the sales of High West Distillery are from bottling rye and bourbon blends. I know they are distilling some of their own spirits, but that will just grow the offerings. It certainly does show craft and skill to get the blend right, so I'm certainly not saying Utah shouldn't be proud of High West Distillery.

Sugar House Distillery's Single Malt Whiskey got a 91 from Wine Enthusiast. I haven't had it, but I'm excited to give it try.

SeattleUte may hate me for this, but I really do enjoy the new American Single Malt Whiskeys. I got a Single Malt Whiskey from Bull Run Distillery in Portland that is fantastic. It was a Father's Day present. I was wanting a really good scotch for Father's Day, but my wife bought me this when she was out a farmer's market. I'm not feeling that I'm missing out from having this over a scotch.

The Washington Post had a recent article on the emergence of Single Malt American Whiskeys. I'm excited to try some more of these and will probably be picking up a bottle of the Sugar House Distillery stuff soon.

I have missed out all these years on Mezcal. The smoky flavor of it is just fantastic. I wish there was more variety for purchase in liquor stores here.

I've had some really good drinks with mezcal. But I've never bought it to make my own.

Flight of Whistlepig rye from the Space Needle last night. First time I've tried Whistlepig. Went early for the sunset, got home in time for the game.
