Not really a stance. A preference.

I suppose it's not an entirely accurate statement, either.

When I am at a Mexican restaurant and order an entree, I request that the tortillas the bring as a side be corn and not flour.

As such, whenever I go to R.I., I order mole, puntas de filete or the stuffed pork loin, I get the corn tortillas.

I don't think I have ever eaten a flour tortilla at Red Iguana.

I might eat a flour tortilla on occasion when I get a burrito or something at another joint, but it's not often that I eat a flour tortilla and certainly, never as a side.

I've noticed you don't like criticism of Utah food. You were also offended about The average nature of Hires burgers. You probably think crown Burgers are delicious?
I'm not offended, I tend to agree about red iguana. Overpriced and crowded. I just can't think of anything better than it in the state. I'd almost rather eat at the taco cart on 8th s than red iguana.

I haven't tried the puntas. Maybe I will give it a try.

How do you like their flour tortillas they bring you with your meal? Yum, no?
I used to really like Red Iguana. I hadn't been there for a long time. We went for the first time in years when we ate with your family last year. I didn't love it. I've been two more times this year with friends and family when they come to visit from out of state. Every time I go I like it less. Last time I was stupid and ordered the special. Strawberry mole. It was terrible. I am embarrassed I made you go there. The tacos in LA were a million times better than anything at R.I.

I swear they changed there ingredients while I was on my mission - the cheese didn't seem as good. Like you have said, it probably represents a change in what one considers as "good" food. I don't get the cost, as the Pie primarily caters to a college crowd. Yet people show up and there is a line out the door.

That is more reasonable. To everything, there is a season.

Nah, I wanted to go, too. I want to like the place and I get the yellow mole because that tastes good. But it has all these local awards on the wall for being the bes this or that...I just don't get it. I'm with you...the more I go there, the less I like it. I was thinking of going there for Saturday morning breakfast but I don't want to be disappointed.

In terms of great Mexican food, you come from the land of Milk and Honey, as it were. Finding 'Great Mexican Food' in Utah by comparison is a tall order.

You nailed it. The cheese is rubbery and not delish. Also, they must have jacked the prices in the last decade because there is no way we could have afforded it in college at today's prices.

You are also right that there is always a line. The atmosphere is very cool. They need to hire a consultant and fix the recipe. It could be a really great spot.

Try Sergios if the line is too long at Red Iguana. It is about a block away and in some ways is better.

I'd be interested in getting a taco cart thread going. I used to have about 20 different LA carts mapped and rated. I have hit a few here in SLC and I agree that those tacos are usually the best option. I've seen carts by delta center, near State and 9S, and a few other spots. The one by the delta center is just ok tacos, but he kills it because he is the only show in town for the nearby office people. I'm sure there is a better cart out there.

The cart that used to be in the Sears parking lot was pretty tasty. It was years ago when I was last there, but the food was yummy.

What were the barbecued corn carts called? Those were spectacular! Elotes or something?

I have heard that the fajitas at Red Iguana are fabulous. At least, thats the word on the streets.

Cowboy Grub also serves up some mean mexican food.
