  • Has anyone reported here on Bam Bam's BBQ in Orem/Provo? I never know where the boundary is between cities. It's on State Street several blocks south of University Parkway.

I have to say they have just about the best brisket I've had from a restaurant. I'm anxious to try it again.

I see facebook updates for this place all the time. I went to high school with the owner. Sounds like they are doing great business and have sold out multiple days. Sounds like they need to plan a little better the amount of meat to prepare.

I have been watching the location. They just opened. Looking forward to checking them out.

        • Went to Bam Bam's BBQ for lunch today. He opened just a couple of weeks ago, yet the place was packed and there was a long line to order. I never order brisket, but I gave it a whirl and goodness, it was tasty.

I had to giggle when I was standing in line and hearing some patrons discuss how they had just had a friend from Austin come with them to Bam Bam's and the friend from Austin said it was the best brisket ever. If a guy from Austin says it, it must be true.

            I will return and report.

It's okay. Certainly not the best ever. Best in a retail space in Utah county? Probably.

Went there for lunch today. The place was packed but when we left at about 1:30 it had mostly cleared out. Beware of the noon lunch rush. We probably stood in line for 25 minutes or so and there weren't many seats.

Looks like the place is run by a guy with quite a bit of experience on the competitive bbq circuit. Lots of photos on the wall of competitions, etc. Looks like he has not only competed, but won several times. Here is the FB page:

                https://www.facebook.com/bambamsbbq

The menu is ala carte. You order your meat and sides by the pound and everything is served on butcher paper. $8-9 per half lb. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, turkey, chopped beef. Here is our order (there is some white bread on the side):

Verdict: Excellent. The brisket was a little overdone as you can see - falling apart, but there were some big slices under those pieces at the top that held together. The brisket was extremely moist, tender, and it has a very nice flavor. Ribs were very good. Sides were decent. We were talking to the pitmaster afterwards and he said that he wasn't happy with the brisket today and was apologizing, so that is a good sign.

Best BBQ I have had in Utah. Can't wait to go back.

I can second your assessment. We went this evening, and it was really tasty. In chatting with the owner, he said he only uses prime meats, and has to special-order it. He said that a couple of days ago the supplier messed up his order and to make up for it gave him wagyu brisket for the same price as the prime. Said it was fabulous. He doesn't do burnt ends; just lets you choose which end of the brisket to cut from, the lean (flat) or the juicy (point). I had some of each, and it was very good. The ribs had good flavor, too, and the pulled pork was good. Yeah, we'll be going back again.

He chatted a little about the bbq circuit, and said Johnny Trigg was kind of a jerk, but the rest of them were pretty nice dudes, including Myron Mixon (who kind of comes off as a jerk on the shows) and Harry Soo, who he said would be coming to visit soon.

Crazy. Apparently I'm going to have to try this place.

                      • I went to Bam Bams today for lunch. The lady behind the counter said they have sold out of brisket everyday they have been open and they continue to order more meat each day. She told me they are now selling 600 pounds of meat a day. I worked my charm as usual and she gave us almost 2 pounds of brisket and a pound of ribs but only charged us for a pound and 1/2 pound.

I tried the brisket and the ribs. The brisket was very moist and had great flavor. The ribs were also excellent. Definitely the best bbq I have had in Utah.

She wants you, bro. Can't say I blame her.

It's not easy being me. Remind me to tell you about my recent Wendover trip where a young lady was putting the full court press on me the entire night when I found out she wanted me to go back to her room with her and her husband. I am not sure if he wanted some too or just wanted to watch. I didn't stick around long enough to find out.

Perhaps it was she who wanted to watch.
