I am a big fan of hazelnut butter and macadamia nut butter along with the standard peanut butter, but nothing beats a good PB&J sandwich (or peanut butter cookies for that matter...)

Growing up, my mom would always buy creamy peanut butter ( i think because it was always cheaper). When we would go to my Grandma's house, she would always have crunchy peanut butter. It always seemed like such a treat! Now we are a creamy pb family. My wife and kids wont eat the chunky pb which makes me sad

We are a multi pb family. We have anti-crunchites and anti-creamyites in the same house.

We have no manner of -ites in our home -- we are open to many varieties.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

A girl in my son's class was rushed via ambulance to the hospital today for the fourth time this year due to her peanut allergy. Before long they will probably ban the yummy stuff from his school (or at least his class).

Our ward was just relocated to a new building and my wife was told there was a ban on peanuts in the building because one kid has a severe allergy. Apparently our bishop didn't get the memo because his candy jar is full of Snickers and peanut M&Ms.

                Crunchy peanut butter sucks.

And I am sorry that the kid got sick. My daughter's school in Northern California had a ban on peanut butter in any form in school. No allergic kids-just a ban.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Peter Pan has come out with a Skippy Natural knock-off, called, cleverly enough "Peter Pan Natural." I've been eating Skippy Natural for years, so I was curious.

                  Value:
Price is essentially the same. Ten cent difference.
Skippy is 15 oz; Peter Pan is 16.3.

                  Ingredients:
                  Identical ingredients in identical order.

                  Appearance:
Unlike Skippy, Peter Pan had that old-style natural-pb goo on the top when I opened it up. I had to upend the jar over the sink and pour all the oil off.

                  Taste:
The taste of Peter Pan is similar to Skippy, but slightly saltier.

                  Texture:
Peter Pan is wet and oily. It's not thick and creamy like Skippy is. It affects the taste, and it kept sliding off my knife. It's easier to spread on bread, but it's harder to spread on apples or celery. The oiliness kills the taste for me, though.

                  Verdict:
Epic fail. The whole point of new-generation natural peanut butters (which, incidentally, aren't exactly natural) is to get away from the nasty oily mess associated with the old natural peanut butters. PB managed to take the new ingredients and produce the old result. Yuck.

the oil is good, sounds like Skippy did you the favor of homogenizing for you.

Freshly roasted peanuts at a game sound great. When I lived in Denver and regularly attended Rockies games I would buy huge bags of roasted peanuts to eat at the ballpark. The problem: salted nuts were too salty and unsalted nuts were too plain. The solution: buy both and make an even mix for the game. The result: peanutty perfection.

Peter Pan has more oil or more water or both.

not knowing exactly how they process the peanuts it is hard to tell. It is possible to homogenize any nut butter to the point that the oil doesn't separate. That amount of processing makes a difference in the texture. If you're in for a fun experiment then dump an entire jar of Peter Pan in a stand mixer and beat it with a paddle for about five minutes. I think you'll be surprised at the results.

I've made my own peanut butter, pelle. Even independent of the separated oil at the top, the new PP is a much wetter, thinner pb than its skippy counterpart.

I posted the review mostly TiC, because my love affair with peanut butter has been the source of many jokes over the years.

Stop thinking about other people's nuts, and if you can't help yourself, stop imagining that people have extra nuts... that is just rude.

                              Some general notes on peanuts:

Ox, next time you roll through Georgia, pick up a bag of boiled peanuts from a street vendor. Yummy.

Babs, I suggest that you don't pour that peanut oil down the drain. Stir it back in, and your peanut butter will be much more spreadable.

I think that it is interesting that when we make peanut butter in our blender, the oil doesn't separate out the way it does with some 'natural' commercial versions. I wonder if this is because they are adding oil to increase spread-ability.

*ahem* GA is not the only place making boiled peanuts!

Not sure if they differ there from Hawai'i, but the version from the mother island is easy to make. Water in pot, mix in a fair amount of shoyu (Aloha brand, bitches!), half a bag of anise, a little bit of salt and bring to a boil. Toss in raw peanuts and bring the temperature down to a high simmer/low boil range. Check periodically and done when tender -- usually takes about an hour and a half or so.
