The Costco here had medium bge's for 549.00. That is lower than dealer cost.

Dang I need to get to Costco and see if they have any Komados or BGEs. In the Costco Connection mag the other month they had a little thing about the Komado but I have yet to see them here in VA.

I've decided that I am going to get a Traeger. I am jealous of all the scrumptious things that many of you are able to make. I know the one that I want to get, but none of the dealers in Eugene have it or can order it.

So I guess I am going to just have to get the Texas Grill.

There was a grocery store up in Heber City that had one of these (used) for sale dirt cheap. Looked like it only had minor usage. In hindsight, I should have bought and had my brother (who is a metal-working genius) help me cut off all the pig parts and repaint it.

Has anyone here done any mods to their smoker? I've seen some pretty sweet ones online, but it seems that the most common is the mod that ads extra shelf space. How do these mods affect smoke time and internal temps? I assume that the more you bog down the smoker with meat, the longer the smoke?

As long as you maintain the same temp your cooking time will be the same regardless of the amount of meat. You will use more fuel though to keep the temps at the same level.

I did 4 briskets once on my WSM, which only took a small bag of Kingsford. Of course I smoked them in Houston in July. I probably would have needed to add some more briquettes to the fire ring if I did the same smoke in January.

The next mod I make to my smoker is to put a hole with a spring loaded cover so I can run my meat and temp probes through the main body of the smoker and not under the lid.

So after having temp fluctuations on the BBQ075, I started to research and see if I had an issue. I came across something on "P settings" for the Traegers. There is pin hole next to digital readout that controls said P settings. It controls the augers on/off timing.

P-1 Setting: Auger motor on time of 15 seconds, off time: 55 seconds
P-2 Setting: Auger motor on 15 seconds, off time: 65 seconds
P-3 Setting: Auger motor on 15 seconds, off time: 75 seconds
P-4 Setting: Auger motor on 15 seconds, off time: 85 seconds
P-5 Setting: Auger motor on 15 seconds, off time: 95 seconds

Mine was set at P-2 and at 225 I could get as low as 213 and as high as 260. Tonight I raised to P-3 and at 225 I would get as low as 219 and as high as 234. Much improved. I did this for almost three hours tracking the temp and I am confident I have solved the riddle. I have also ordered 6 fire bricks which should further improve the temp hold.

Just thought I would pass along to the rest of the nubes in case they have similar issues.

Where did you get your fire bricks? I was just talking to someone about fire bricks and p settings this afternoon. What a coincidence.

Speaking of p settings, what was your factory default?

I'm wondering where to buy fire bricks locally without the shipping. I would think that some masonry place must sell them.

I think I saw similar p setting data on pelletheads somewhere, but I'm still confused. Coach was using a P2 setting and experienced high temp fluctuation....lower lows and higher highs. By changing to P3, and thereby increasing the amount of time the auger is inactive, the temp was actuallystabilized. This seems counterintuitive to me. If the auger is inactive longer, I would think that the temp is going to drop to a lower low than at the P2 setting. Maybe I'm missing something.

Also, what is the advantage of increased temp fluctuations? In other words, why have the ability to change the P setting to P1 or P0?
