He gave me some great tips and I'm set to try out some Cimarron Doc's rub tomorrow for my first cook in the Pit Barrel Cooker. What I'd really like to do is make my own rub. I've done this before, but I'm looking to start from a good base and modify it to how I like it. Basically, I'm starting pretty much from scratch and would appreciate pointers and/or resources to help me out. I think KC BBQ is hands down the best in the world and being born and raised here, I want to carry that hometown pride a little bit further and make it mine.
Dude, Oklahoma Joe's burnt ends are amazing. But, Carolina Low Country is the best in the world. Go ahead and just turn east and bow.

Dude, please. In KC, the place to get burnt ends is Arthur Bryant's, not Oklahoma Joe's.

I've been looking around and have really liked the idea of a Yoder smoker. They have a decent sized one and the temp control seems easy enough and you can set it in 5 degree increments.

Yoder Smokers YS640s Pellet Grills are Made in America. Versatility to Smoke, Grill, Sear, and Bake. Comes with an industry leading 10 year warranty.

I loved my Yoder. It would be a solid choice. If you get one, make sure you get the grill grates as well. It can sear a mean steak. I only sold mine because I wanted something bigger. I'd get the comp cart instead of the standard base. I would love to get a Yoder YS1500 if I could find a used one for a steal.

Sorry, your super frugal wife is never going to allow you to buy a $3300 used food cooker. Especially when you've got all those perfectly functional food cookers inside the house.

I talked with her about it already. She rolled her eyes and said "It's your money." Im interpreting that as a yes.

You're married with a number of kids and yet you still think that is the correct interpretation?

That is a steal. One year old is nothing. This is a huge chunk of powder coated steel, so it should be just like new.

Yeah. I just don't need that much capacity (and its a nine hour drive to pick up). Very tempting.

Is there a thread for smoking chicken? Smoked up some chicken breasts and fries for Father's day. Started the chicken from frozen. Fries weren't as crispy as I was going for. My 8-year-old daughter said it was the best dinner ever. She was wrong.

I think the spatchcock chicken thread is the one we traditionally use. Just breeze past the part where Coach called LAU a dipshit for posting about chicken in the smoker thread.

That thread didn't seem appropriate since I didn't spatchcock the chicken breasts.

And I am not ashamed of the smoking of chicken, for it results in juicy white meat to every one that consumeth; to the cook first, and also to his children.

We smoked a chicken on Saturday. It was as good as you can get a chicken to taste.

I couldn't pull the traeger on the Stumps. It's a whole lot of pit and it was far away (however, if any of you want a smokin' deal on a pit, search "stumps" on Oklahoma City's craigslist page).

I bought some gaskets for my WSM and purchased a backwoods Chubby G2. It's small, relatively light weight (170 lbs), so I can transport it if necessary.
