Having lived in Austin and having smoked at home for several years now, I am a hopeless BBQ snob. That being said, there was a Memphis-style place in Park City a few years back that was outstanding. Sadly, it only lasted a year or so.

I don't smoke like you do, but tend to be a bbq snob as well. I've never had exceptional bbq west of KC. Too bad about the place in PC.

Speaking of 'cue, I saw a sign Under the Bridge Downtown as I was heading back to the office. A place called Yo Mamma's BBQ has moved and is right off the West side of the North Temple overpass. Looks like I might have to check it out and then come back here and complain.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - never eat dinner at Pat's. Only lunch. And usually just lunch on Friday for burnt ends. Almost without fail, when I read a negative review of Pat's it comes from a dinner meal. I tried dinner there once, and it seemed like I got microwaved leftovers.

Like the Pie, but there's a little place over in Draper that does Chicago Style Pizza that's called Sweet Home Chicago, and it's quite good.

That place is pretty good! There's another location at The District in South Jordan. It's the only place I know of in the valley to get a Gino's East-Chicago-style deep dish pizza.

Ruth's Diner - up Emigration Canyon 3-4 miles (great for breakfast, and they have the best patio dining in the city).

Cotton Bottom - this is a bar first/eating establishment 2nd place, but the garlic burgers are worth it.

Bankok Thai - on Foothill Dr 2nd floor

Ruth's is one of those places that's fun to go up in the evening in the fall and sit outside. There's nothing there I particularly love on the menu, but most of the food is good.

My dad and I went to Cotton Bottom a couple days after my mission and enjoyed the garlic burger. Only time I've had one, but was quite good.

Never been up to Bankok Thai, my wife doesn't like Thai food so I usually get that stuff alone. I don't make it up to that end of the valley a ton.

Has anyone mentioned Hires? It's my favorite place in the world for a down-home burger and fries experience. The root beer freeze is an occasional added delight.

My boys and I have started going to the Hires on Ft Union Boulevard after Priesthood session of conference every 6 months. It tends to be a madhouse, but it makes for a good tradition. Last time it was very funny to see an older guy and two teenage boys come into the restaurant after it was already full. They were obviously not LDS (and not just because of the U shirts ) and unfamiliar with the local culture because they stood dumbfounded by a burger place packed tight with probably over 125 men and boys in white shirts and ties at 9:00 on a Saturday night.

Ron Bennington on XM radio the other day had some food critic on from the New York Times, they were discussing the est burgers in America and Crown Burger was listed as one of the "can't misses" if you love burgers.

I know Crown has been discussed in another thread, but it was getting some national love and this thread getting bumped made me think it was worth mentioning.

I almost dreaded going to Jazz games because it meant my routine of parking at Crown Burger and getting uncomfortably bloated on fries and pastrami. Not that it wasn't good, but it was just SO MUCH food.

The first really good BBQ I had was at Jack's Stack in KC. That was in 2001. Every time I've been in the south or Texas since then, I've sought out BBQ places, and I don't know if it's a "never as good as the first time" thing, but no one since has ever come close.

Ruth's and Hires are staples for us. Dodo and Blue Plate are visited with some frequency due to proximity. The Cowboy Grub is certainly not "must-eats" but it is close and their chicken noodle soup and pot roast sandwich are pretty good.

If you like banh mi, you need to try Oh Mai. There is one on 3425 S State St that has been packed the two times I have stopped in. They just opened a new location closer to home at 6093 S Highland Drive in Holladay (right after you stay to the left off 2000 E to get onto Highland before turning down into Van Winkle). I ate a ton of banh mi on my mission and this is as good as any I've had. I need to try their pho, but I can't keep myself from those sandwiches. Very highly recommended.

My wife and kids dropped in last week to the State Street location and the owners said that they are opening up a third restaurant in Orem very soon.
