A 2-year child that doesn't sleep makes playing games incredibly difficult. We have picked up some more games over the past year or so, but haven't got a chance to play them much. However, there are a few that I really like that we have gotten lately.
Castles of Burgundy. I wanted to have a game with a dice mechanic. I have played it 2-3 times and have enjoyed it. Mechanics are fairly simple, but the strategy is not easy to grasp. It is on the longer side of the games that I actually enjoy. However, it avoids the 1 hour building your road thing that many don't like.
Lords of the Waterdeep. A D&D themed euro game. Worker placement that reminds me a bit of Stone Age, but I liked it more than Stone Age. I highly recommend this game. It is one of the more impressive games that I have as far as components go.
Galaxy Trucker. Haven't had a chance to play a full game yet. Every time I've tried to play something comes up. Love the mechanic of building the ships and the game has a lot of humor in it.
I don't have a copy, but I have played the card game Gloom a couple of times. Not sure how it plays with 2 people, but I don't see it not working well with 2. Interesting mechanic as most of the cards are mostly see through and stack on top of each other.

Ticket to Ride is a great game. My 7 year old loves it. I am kicking myself for not picking it up on Amazon the other week when it was less than $30. We got her Uno and Skip Bo to put in her stocking. I have been thinking of getting her Stratego and maybe Guess Who for the younger one.
Morphology. Pretty much pictionary without the drawing. You have a bunch of everyday items that you can use to get your team to guess the word. It's challenging. My family has played it once, and they seem to like it.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Went with Labyrinth, Ratatat Cat, and Ticket to Ride a White Line Highway.
Should be fun.
So far we've played Lab and Rat a tat cat. Both are a huge hit. Labyrinth is actually fun even for adults. Thank you for the recs.
havent busted out ticket to ride yet. We were also given two games for Xmas. One is called "in a pickle" and is a terrible game that we played once and everyone hated and thought was dumb. We were also given "Asara" which is by the same company that does labyrinth so I'm hopeful it will be fun.
EDIT: ok, so Tokyo isn't as cheap as I thought it was, but on a per play basis, it's been a good deal. All my kids love it, and it has a fun retro Japanese sci fi theme that actually works.
Hmmm...that sounds interesting. That's a good rating for a party game on the geek. And cheap....
I like faidutti, but he gets a little too fantasy geeky for me, iirc (yeah, yeah, I know...). Does this have that flavor?

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Not at all other than maybe some stylized card artwork.
Each player gets 6 coins (need 13 to win) and a card (which they don't look at). Each card is a character (King, Queen, Thief, Judge, Peasant etc.) who has a different ability. Each turn you can either look at your card, trade (or not) a card with another player in secret or declare who you think your card is to use the ability. When you declare who you think your card is people around the table can challenge it (if you or the challenge is wrong you pay a fine to the courthouse).
It can get pretty hectic with people swapping out cards or challenging other people. I thought it was pretty fun.
is anyone playing "Munchkin?" seems to be a very popular card game at work these days.
We got if for christmas. The kids really like it, though the games can be a bit long. We play the shortened version and are not nearly as cutthroat as you could be. Still it takes around 45 minutes. I think it is very clever and fun.
