I am digging the hell out of this game.
I started playing a bit better last night. Unlocked dead silence, started using suppressors, stopped pushing.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

How many prestiges are there? I have heard rumors that you can't get some of the perks without prestiging? Give me the 411.

There are 10, with likely more available at DLC launches like with MW3. The fastest way to prestige/rank up is to play Kill Confirmed. I've got a friend that is prestige 5 already (only 1.5 days playing time, to my 13 hours) and has played something like 300 KC games and nothing else. Of course, he has a 3.96 KDR, so that helps...

Pushing in this game = lots of deaths. I have to slow down and really watch my back. The spawns change so fast, there's almost always someone behind you.
          Not that, sickos.

There are lots of corner camping spots, but very few places that are easy to secure with just one or two chokes. I find myself running around throwing shock charges like they are going out of style, then running over them and picking them up and re-throwing them. It works great, especially when thrown at places likely to harbor lurkers just around the corner. They give just enough time to stop running, aim and fire, leveling the playing field in those situations when you are running towards a doorway for cover only to see someone pop out while you are mid-run. They are especially good for CTF.

Has anyone noticed a limit on the number of shock charges/claymores/bouncing betties you can throw out? I've not really noticed, but I don't tend to throw out more than 2-3. I've never noticed one blowing up when laying down a new one, like with MW2.

Anyone? I don't forsee putting in the hours into this game like I have in the others. I don't want to waste my perks/guns for nuthin'! I plan on pulling a SJS/OdenBeard and not prestige.

              • I am already over it. I rented instead of buying and I am glad I did.

That was my plan as well.

                  • Given the hate i've read about on here, my expectations were very low and thus i was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's b/c i had a good connection or i was playing newbs or that i haven't played in many months, but I enjoyed it. I won't/can't put in the hours I used to, but i'll be on from time to time.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the dislike around here is about, probably just burnout caused by MW3, given the turmoil at Infinity Ward post MW2, that isn't very surprising. That drama severely limited MW3. It's a well known, yet oft ignored fact of software engineering, you can't just throw more resources on the problem. The ramp-up time before one is really being effective is just too long. Which is why I laughed when they said they were going to throw another game studio on MW3 after Infinity Ward hemorrhaged its top MW2 talent.

All that being said, Black Ops II has been a much smoother release than Black Ops I and MW3. I suspect the next CoD game from IW will be much better than MW3, given that the post-MW2 IW will have had 3+ years with the code base by then.

                        • Been a long time since we've done this:

                          ROLL CALL!

                          • On another note: I'm really coming around on BLOPS 2. It helps that I got my modem replaced with one that actually works. You can't run-n-gun like MW2/3, but you can have a good time without camping.

I don't understand this complaint with blops2. I run-n-gun just fine, and find locking down sections of the map to be much more difficult in blops2 than MW3. I suppose I can chalk that up to not knowing the maps very well yet.

As for the roll call, I'll be on, so Drwuap and cougar_blue, feel free to invite me/join up. Anyone else on PS3 that hasn't been around in MW3 can add me, D34TH_5MURF__, and we can roll. I don't suck, too bad.
