It is clear that the premise of the series is to give a vehicle for Dylan and Mia to make their case and counter the dominant narrative of lunatic Mia and poor manipulated Dylan. Dylan didn't feel comfortable speaking out until recently. This is definitely a product of the Me Too movement.

It is funny you think that people would be invested enough to sit through this entire series and not be aware of where Moses Farrow stands (they do say in the series that he recanted his support for Mia/Dylan). If you google virtually anything about the case the responses are always overwhelmed with people linking to the Moses essay and the Yale-New Haven study (as we have seen in this thread).

And for the record, when the Woody Allen Memoir was published last year Dylan was furious that the fact checkers for the book never even contacted her for a comment or rebuttal.

So the publisher of an autobiography containing controversial facts should check with the persons denying the facts about their veracity before publishing the autobiography? That's what "fact checking" is in publishing? It's funny that Dylan thinks that, or, that HBO is telling viewers that.

This notion that Allen and his allies and friends have been victors in a massive PR program is such BS. What actually happened is that the governments decided not to prosecute, for lack of evidence, after the experts they hired concluded that there was no abuse or molestation, one of them explicitly concluding that Mia brainwashed Dylan. Then everyone did the rational thing and concluded that it didn't happen and went back to regarding Allen as before--weird, sometimes tasteless, and creator of excellent films. That's what's supposed to happen in our judicial system. The prosecutor isn't even supposed to try the case in press, whether or not he decides to prosecute. But this one, who took ten months investigating and decided he couldn't win, couldn't do the ethical thing and not comment on the case. Meanwhile, those who knew Allen best, his longest and closest work colleagues and significant others spoke up in his defense--naturally.

Twenty years later, Dylan and Mia found a sympathetic ear in NY Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who didn't know any of the contestants, then Ronan ignited Me Too! with his story on Weinstein, and he and Mia seized the day. They have been nothing but riding PR after the professionals in real time decided there was no case.

No. I don't think anyone should shut up. I'm all for free speech.

But I think it's ethically and morally unsound for powerful media to give a platform to famous people whose accusations of heinous conduct are facially implausible and lacking evidence and long rejected by the judicial system--for, of course, filthy lucre. What if this were being done to those men of color wrongfully accused of raping the Central Park jogger now cleared by the judicial system?

Do you think it's wrong for those accused of crimes by whomever to defend themselves and for others to defend them?

Are you aware that Allen had to go to a small press to publish his autobiography because of Ronan's networking with the Big 6 presses?

If you like shows like the Great British Bake Off, you should check out The Great Pottery Throw Down. The format is basically identical to Bake Off, but they make pottery instead of baked goods. There's 3 seasons on HBO Max. First two seasons were on the BBC and the third and fourth are on Channel 4 in the UK. It's really quite good. You may have to search for it. I didn't know existed until a co-worker told me about it.
