I was on my mission in 1990 so I never owned a pair of Zs, but they were not my style. I never tried to grow a mullet and always thought they were dumb.

I definitely pegged my pants. In fact, we sewed ours so that they were really skinny. Many people did this.......hence, the 80s re-tread of skinny jeans that kids wear now.

I think you confuse my awareness of some of these things with my thinking they are cool.

I still don't get how accent walls are a craze given that they have been around for decades. In fact, they are part of Post WW2 Americana. That doesn't mean that I like them (or dislike them).

I'll admit to enjoying the books.

I was a hold out for a long time simply not wanting to give in to the latest fad.

Finally a few Summers ago I bought and read the first six. The first couple of books are clearly written more for children and take that slant, but after that they get decidedly "more grown-up" as do the movies.

I finally read the last book just a couple months ago and thought it was a fun harmless read.

I just don't recall seeing accent walls very much until the last few years. All of the homes in my neighborhood were built post 2004 and half of these people have accent walls painted in outlandish colors. I can understand using a stronger shade of a color you already have in your home, but I don't understand having some kind of subtle brown or taupe on all of your walls and then having the BRIGHT red accent wall.

People misunderstand the timing of the mullet. My memory of the 80s was that long hair wasn't really that in after around 1984 or so (think the Tom Cruise look from Top Gun), but the mullet came on with ferocity some time in 1988 or 1989 and remained there through 1990. It was a short and extreme period. Andre Agassi, Dennis Eckersley and Mel Gibson personified the mullet during that period. There were a few outliers prior to the late 80s (see Bono in the "In the Name of Love Video"), but the mullet had a short peak in 1989-90 and then fell off quickly. Be thankful for serving your mission during this unenviable time. You can't imagine being a 7th grader during the 1989-90 school year, it was quite simply the worse period for fashion and music ever. Neon clothing, Oakley Razorblades (though they did offer Thermonuclear Protection), Z Cavariccis, stripes on your temples, Paul Abdul, etc.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Have them read "Danny, the Champion of the World"--one of my Dahl favorites. Also "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar" is one of my favorite short stories of all time.

They Like Danny too. The boys are always trying to take raisins with them when we go on hikes as a family. They think that all they need is a raisin or two and they can poach themselves a pheasant.

There is only one fashion question that needs to be answered, did you wear Zubaz pants.

This is not a self portrait, I only wish that I was this boss.

There is no better way to show your love than matching Zubaz pants.

HFN Jr. and I are currently reading "Danny the Champion of the World" and he is loving it. I will have to check out Henry Sugar.

My 16 year old daughter went to the midnight showing. She thought it was a great film.

Of course, like her mother, she thinks Somewhere In Time is a great film.

It might be over the head of someone as young as Jr., but you'll enjoy it, as it involves gambling and sticking it to casinos.

I thought this movie was fine. I mostly stared at Emma Watson and wondered if the British actor(s)/actress(es) who weren't cast for this movie are reconsidering their career path.

Also, the previews for this movie were terrible. 2012? G.I. Joe? Shortz? No thank you.

Your son will love the Hobbit. But Roald Dahl sucks. Get him some Lloyd Alexander.

I predict that G.I. Joe will be better than expected...mostly because all of the summer popcorn action flicks have been somewhere between crappy and decent. G.I. Joe has no expectations, thus, it'll be good.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Sorry to disappoint you but Miss Watson won't be acting for a while, other than the final two Potter films. She just started her freshman year at Brown University in Rhode Island.
