Watched the entire first season of Transparent last night. Only intended to watch a couple episodes, but couldn't stop. It was really good. Judith Light was amazing. Not sure which member of the family I hate the most ... its close between Sarah and Ali.
Did you know this streams on Amazon Instant Video?

That's funny, I don't hate any of them. They are all horrible, but I love all the characters.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostWatched the entire first season of Transparent last night. I'm halfway through. Good stuff -- I like the part where Judith Light's husband is missing and instead of looking for him the kids all go out to eat and get hammered.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostWatched the entire first season of Transparent last night. I really liked Transparent. Wasn't in love with the way it ended (the last three episodes or so), but very good overall. I've since starting watching Alpha House. I laughed when the Mormon senator talked about how he served a mission so he knows about cultural sensitivity. ha.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Alpha house can be pretty funny. There's a whole episode in season 2 about soaking that involves the Mormon senator's daughter and one of the senator's aide that I thought was pretty funny.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI really liked Transparent. West Point: The First 200 Years
Surprisingly, I did not catch a single mention of goatnapping."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Amazon just released Mozart In The Jungle, their new original comedy, on December 23rd. I've been through about six episodes and highly recommend it. It is a little cartoonish at first, but the characters start to get fleshed out over time and I think it has really turned into a great show by episode 6. Gael Garcia Bernal plays the conductor of the New York Symphony (a fictional stand-in for the NY Phil). He is one of the most cartoonish characters in the pilot, but is now one of my favorites. Bernal is terrific in the role of Rodrigo. Sepinwall says the show is more of a "light drama" than a comedy, and I think I would agree with that, but I did laugh out loud several times. That may be because I am somewhat of a classical music geek though.

I watched this the other day. I remember there being some pretty bad reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised.Originally posted by dabrockster View PostJack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is now on Prime..Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I've seen it twice. Good, entertaining movie. I like that the plot is pretty simple, especially during a time that overly complex spy-type plots seem to be the norm. The only real negative from the movie is Branagh's attempt to play a Russian. He seems very inauthentic and it made his character difficult to really watch.Originally posted by falafel View PostI watched this the other day. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Divergent. Thought the lead actress looked too young."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Its Amazon Pilot Season again. I love this model of turning out 5 or 6 shows and letting audiences decide. Some potentially good shows again this year, with The Man in the High Castle looking like the best.

It has its moments--the initial episode with Bill Murray hooked me and John Goodman is always funny. But I wish it would take some shots at those on the left rather than focus pretty much exclusively on the right wingers. I'm also bothered by how they skewers the Mormon senator and his family. It's not that the skewering itself is offensive--Mormondom is a very target-rich environment--but Trudeau isn't very well-informed and he sees Mormons like any other evangelicals (e.g., the weird prayer offered by the wife when the senator returned home from Bagram, the cross on the daughter's dorm room wall at BYU, their religious vocabulary, etc.). I'll probably stick with the series for a while, but it's not great.Originally posted by falafel View PostAlpha house can be pretty funny.
