I don't think it's any less accessible than Kid A (in fact, I think it may be more). And if you're going to do Kid A, you might as well do Kid B, right?

Outside of OKC and Kid A, I think Amnesiac has their best work. It's just less coherent than HTTT and less consistent than IR.

If you are wanting something that will be more akin to a natural Bends --> OK ---> progression, then something like Hail to the Thief will be appropriate. It is guitar driven.

Kid A would be my first chioce for you, but you have to basically throw out all expectations. Or, if you want to be in total shock, go ahead and expect something akin to OK Computer and then listen to Kid A. That will help recreate the feeling most radiohead fans felt when that album first dropped.

Of the 4 that you have not heard, Kid A is the best. So I would go with that.

Speaking of headphones...get some customs at beatsbydre.com. Turns out Dr Dre made the Lakers their own set of custom purple and gold ones. Has anyone seen these? They have been reviewed very positively, so I may finally check out a pair. I love wireless headphones.

It seems like their albums have very rich stories to tell, and 10 or so songs isn't enough time in which to do it.

Stories?!? I would not say that Radiohead tells stories on their albums any more than i would say that Pollock tells stories in his paintings. Yes, there's a message, maybe that's what you mean, but I've never listened to a Radiohead album and thought, "you just quite didn't finish the story you were trying to tell." You experience the music, and while I've wanted more of the experience, I've always felt that I had experienced something full, something whole. That's one of the things that makes them Radiohead.

This really does make all the difference with Radiohead. I listen to them most nights as I fall asleep. Every now and then I'll hear something that I never picked up on before and that I'd never hear in the car or working around the house. They are headphones only for me.

My position is this: if you need to have someone explain the appeal to you, there is bound to be no appeal. It's like asking someone to explain what is funny about Dumb & Dumber. Either you like the humor or you don't, and no amount of explaining is going to make it funny to you.

If you've listened to Radiohead (or Wilco), and they didn't appeal to you, then they don't appeal to you. Nothing is universal. At least you made the effort.

I second this. If you haven't heard anything since OK Computer, go with Kid A. The rest are great, but Kid A is a masterpiece. And definitely take DDD's advice to only listen to it if you can do it at all once. It's not as good piecemeal as it is as a complete experience.

I don't know that it's that odd. There are a few bands who put out an album that I really loved, and then I never really listened to them again. For example, August and Everything After by Counting Crows and the Blue album by Weezer may be among my favorite 20-25 albums ever, and I hardly listened to a second CD from either band.

The Blue Album was amazing, but Pinkerton was even better. After Pinkerton they haven't done much good. Pinkerton is by far the superior Weezer album, though. Please revisit!
