One of my favorite books ever - took an entire summer to read. I had to use an dictionary to better understand the English translation.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostI'm legitimately saddened by the fact that Les Mis isn't currently playing on Broadway, as I was hoping to take Mrs. D when we visit NYC this fall. I'm also saddened by the fact that the professional production currently touring the U.S. doesn't incorporate the revolving stage. I'm also currently 130 pages into the book, which is <cough> 1400+ pages long!
And with that, I conclude this random summary of my Les Mis related thoughts at the moment.
"You interns are like swallows. You shit all over my patients for six weeks and then fly off."
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault. It's my fault for overestimating your competence."

That was like nails on a chalkboard listening to her sing one of my Fav Les Miserables songs..
The other cast members look fairly good.
I recently watch on PBS the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables and they had all the new cast members (Including one of the Jonas Brothers, who was pretty good actually) singing but at the end they had the original cast coem and sing with who was the current cast member.. It was spectacular..

Took me a year. Great book.Originally posted by hostile View PostOne of my favorite books ever - took an entire summer to read. I had to use an dictionary to better understand the English translation.
One thing that's surprised me when reading it is that I haven't ever seen a reproduction of the scene in the hotel/apartments with Valjean and Thernardier and the hot poker (with Marius watching through the wall/ceiling/whatever). It was such a powerful display that its absence from the numerous plays/movies seems odd. I guess they just couldn't find a way to fit it in with all the other storylines going on."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

The first season of Life's Too Short is hilarious. Johnny Depp's appearance is absolutely hilarious.Originally posted by Jacob View PostJackman is big on Broadway, Crowe was lead singer in a band before he became a movie star, and Seyfried was in that Abba movie I didn't watch. They'll be passable, I'm sure, but not spectacular. I was disappointed that I didn't get to see Liam Neeson break out singing in the earlier movie version.
Speaking of Liam Neeson, I just watched the first episode of Life's too Short on HBO, and Neeson was brilliant in a scene where he was hillariously failing at trying to be funny. It was all intentional, of course. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

we've got both the 10th and 25th anniversary concerts on DVD and I personally love them both - I agree the Jonas wasn't anywhere as bad as I thought he would be, I didn't realize who it was until the credits - damning with faint praiseOriginally posted by dabrockster View PostThat was like nails on a chalkboard listening to her sing one of my Fav Les Miserables songs..

Apparently this was shot with live signing, which I don't think has been attempted before. It feels like expectations are so high that they are bound to fall short, but looking at the video below I am starting to think this film has a chance to be extraordinary.
